Went to Boo in the Zoo yesterday with the family and thought the zoo was pretty disappointing.

It was $38 for each of us. Most of the animals looked like they were on some kind of sedative and just laying down. My daughter wanted to see a giraffe, but there were none in the exhibit. Lots of it was under construction.

When I was kid 30 years ago, I remember the zoo being awesome. I'm sure my memory is just skewed.

In that case, definitely do NOT go to the Baton Rouge Zoo.

Honestly, with all zoos, it's a matter of when they feed and they are most active. I complained once about the zoo to my zoologist friend who interned/or worked part time? in San Diego at their big zoo. Her exact words to me were "What do you think a lot of these animals do in the wild?" A good bit of the animals in zoos spend a good bit of their day either just pacing around or sleeping. So when you get to a zoo and see animals pacing or sleeping, that's kinda what they do. She said early morning is the best time except for the more nocturnal ones who aren't active at all. Primates varies by species on their down time but are best to view around their feeding times.

The animals being up and around always depends on the time of the day. If you go before noon they are always up. The last Giraffe died early this year and they are still working on a replacement.

Audubon is still a great zoo but boo at the zoo has always been a bit of a mess.

After going to the San Diego Zoo, it's hard to appreciate any other zoo

When were you there? I was there Sunday from 10-1 and the animals were all very active in the morning. Tiger, lions, sun bear, elephants, and rhinos were all moving around close to good view points. The giraffe was out earlier and then not there on my way back from the swamp. I go there fairly often and this was the easiest best animal viewing I'd seen since the spring.

Having been to many zoos in the country, Audubon Zoo really is one of the better ones. San Diego is in a league of its own, though.

I was there around 11-1 or so.

The tiger was very active. My daughter loved that and kept roaring the whole time we stood there.

I went to the San Diego zoo while there for a work trip 3 years ago and yea that was awesome.
