I’ll enjoy talking about softball in February-March but not interested in their scrimmages.

According to a couple ppl there they won big vs the jr college and beat South Alabama by a couple. The 3 main pitchers were good!! Supposedly it’s hard to see how they really are because Torina plays so many ppl the starters are never together however my understanding is the freshmen aren’t good at all like never play at LSU. It’s a bust of a class

According to friend there last night 4-4 vs SEL, he said it was a sh$t show..,As I said last year this will be the worse roster in Torina career.. 3 crap classes have caught up to her. Social warrior Lindsey Leftwich ran LSU softball into the ground. Pitching will be like last yr but there are very very few SEC hitters.. the new dude gonna wish he had stayed at Louisville lol

The pitching looked really good last night. Hitting was awful. Really like the freshman Lefty pitcher. Sydney was amazing as always.

Pitchers looked really good. The Freshman will be good. You can’t tell by fall scrimmage games. They are still getting comfortable. Everybody ease up dang it’s October. Really liked the new Lefty Freshman pitcher and Sydney is elite. Keep working ladies.

The roster isn’t good as a group, there are a few good players but it’s gone downhill here for yrs. There hasn’t been a 1st team AA position player since Jayquish (2017) that’s embarrassing for a school like LSU. They should have 1 every yr and they won’t have 1 this yr or anytime in the near future. Everyone bashed Dobson on here but he developed hitters when he had talent but there isn’t much anymore. The only thing Dobson did wrong is coach Team USA and turn over recruiting to the social warrior, huge mistake

Anybody go to the games yesterday? How they do?

I was there. Again, 3 of the 5 pitchers were really good. Very impressed with the Lefty Freshman, Heevner. Hitting was better Sunday but still needs work. Definitely going to need hitters.

Did you catch the scores by chance? Did the actual starters play as a group or was it mixed with reserves? Did Coffey play yet or is she still out?

They didn’t post the scores, but against Louisiana Tech, it was like 15-0, against Northwest Florida it was like 8-1 or 2. Don’t hold me to that again I’m going off of memory, but it was a lot too a little on both I don’t even know if we know who the starters are yet. They lost 7 starters last year. Coffey did not play and reportedly will not play till the spring.

Sounds like a better day for the offense for sure..Coffey will make a huge difference!! Thank you

Sorry, I meant to like your comment, not dislike it. Please disregard that part. Lol

Note that the same SEL team they played last year and were losing 4-2 going into the last inning as well. They forced extras by tying it up in the 7th and didn't win until later innings, so may not be a good example to judge given SEL seems to always give LSU problems. They apparently stepped on the other team as expected. That friend was also at the 2 games in AL and had same assessment. They stepped on one team and won a 3-2 close game against S AL but they too gave a lot of Power 5s problems last season including several quality wins (AL, MS, etc.), same as SEL (Clemson, Ole Miss, and wins in regionals).
I didn't see the games but have friends who were there and their assessment wasn't quite the doom and gloom you're suggesting. They will be young but "the [worst] roster in her career"-very seriously doubt that. "3 crap classes"?? A lot of people disagree with you there: The most recent class was ranked as one of the best in the country and the 2023 class wasn't bad either. That friend tells me that they are just that though--young. Berzon is the staple but other than Berzon everyone else is a big question mark and for all intents and purposes new to the team (Transfer, Freshman and a pitcher that didn't pitch at all her first year there last year because of injury). They'll go through growing pains for sure but I'm guessing they will show steady improvement.
His assessment was defense looks solid, pitching beyond Berzon will be a question mark but a couple strong potentials, extremely athletic with a lot of speed but lacks pop in the line up or at least hasn't been evident the first 4 games. I think we have to wait to see the young ones settle in before we judge but I suspect they will be middle of the pack in the SEC this year unless there are some surprises.
They have a lot of lefty slapper types and they need some of those kids with righty pop to grow up faster than normal and step up for them to be top-end competitive.

EXACTLY LSUFan!!! Your assessment is about as spot on as any I've seen. There are some potentially very talented kids in their freshman class but from what I've heard they bounce them in and out of the line up regularly which makes it difficult to settle in and get comfortable. Let them get comfortable before assessing them. It's mighty early to get to jumping to conclusions. Heard a couple of the freshmen have great swings, mechanics and presence but clearly gaining their footing right now.

There will be zero freshman position players playing, I talked to 2 different high level travel coaches and they both told me that other than Heavener the other freshman are average players. I don’t pay attention to ranking I talk to ppl they have seen them play and know who their offers were. To compare the class that just committed had offers from Florida, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, UCLA amongst others.. huge difference!! A travel coach can get a kid ranked but can’t get them offers from WS schools. I will love it if I’m wrong though!!

When has the roster been worse? Certainly not during the WS years, not as good as Pleasants, Coffey, (injured but part of class) Newland, Gueritrrez, Petty, Briggs.. not even close and it’s fortunate that Coffey got to come back. When LSU is 3/4 games below .500 in the SEC maybe you will change your perspective. Remember, they finished at .500 (SEC)with all those players and now they don’t have them and Texas is on the schedule next yr…it’s gonna be a tough go for a couple yrs for LSU

They can't be too high level then--may want to check your sources. I'm very familiar with high level travel and several of those players. Know the circuit extremely well. And at least 2 of those in the 2024 class (Not Heavener) had offers from OU, TN, TAMU, UW, Stanford, TX and several others. I know for sure that Jones and Heavener were two of the most sought after 2024s in the country and were both on high level travel ball clubs that were quite successful. I think Heavener didn't really play this past summer due to an injury but was typically the main cog with her teams (Unity year before) and same with Jones who was arguably the best player on the Hotshots teams she was on (won several national titles). Those two are far from average and anyone telling you differently either doesn't know the player, the game or has other agendas in their assessments. It's literally ludicrous to call Jones average, and honestly I think the same about the other Calvez and Phillips just hadn't seen them as much.
Calvez is a very gifted player as well but more of a small baller slapper. Phillips was highly ranked in rankings but never saw or heard much of her in travel ball circuits. From what I've heard she is talented but haven't seen a lot of her at the high levels.

Gonna have to side with the TigerAlum here. I can attest to his comments. I have firsthand knowledge of Sa'Mya and her talents and big time accomplishments at the highest levels of travel ball. Also quite familiar with Heavener. Can also tell you Jones had offers from several top Power 5 programs so not sure about the huge difference point when it comes to her. That kid is definitely not average by any stretch of the imagination. She's probably one of the most dynamic players on the LSU roster but she is a freshman. She was the engine of a team that was in multiple national title games last summer on the flagship team of their organization and was the best player on a team that won multiple national titles before that. Kid is lightning fast, big time athletic, one of the best gloves, hits for average and has pop in her bat. I think she has a slightly above average arm but not as strong as her other tools. I watched her play a few times this past summer. One of the most competitive kids out there too (she walked off a team I was affiliated with twice in high stakes games). But I agree that the two big gets in the class were Heavener and Jones.
Jada is another player I've seen play and she has big time potential. Florida kid and had a visit with Florida. Franklin may not have the big name but I think she dominated in high school in LA and was a member of the Bombers top team. Harris played with Heavener when on Unity. Think she has potential too. And agree with The TigerAlum assessment of Zoe Calvez. She is lighting fast too but long game needs to mature to play at SEC level.
You may be right that no freshman position player may play this season, but that was the case last year as well UNTIL they had injuries. If anyone has a shot I'd say Jones may have a shot. With the addition of Jalia Lassiter who is one of my favorite players in the SEC and I think was a wonderful add to the squad and addition of Hodge at SS opportunities decreased for others because they will play. If assessment is based on 4 exhibition games you probably would say Jalia is average but we all know she is not and will likely be one of the best players on that team. She has shown it against the best while at Ole Miss, but she is settling in there so we haven't seen her best. Same with the freshmen--let them settle in.
