I'm with Safeco and I've had a huge increase. I'm in Baton Rouge, I have a 4 year old roof, no issues etc. I get all these letters in the mail obviously. What am I looking for? What coverages do I really need to be careful about? What extras are worth paying for? I'd really like to shop this and get a decent price as what I'm paying is crazy so any help is appreciated.

Beats me… I have flat 1000$ deductible including hurricane/wind. Was told I would never get that again if I switched anything, so I just bend over every year.

Ask your safeco agent to shop it for you. If you have safeco, you’re with an agent who has other options. If you’re concern is premium and not strength of carrier, they can help. I you want your claim paid, ask them to make some adjustments to your safeco renewal to help offset increase

Ok . Thanks. My escrow exceeds my mortgage. It’s doubled in 2 years.

Same. BR, no claims. Mine went from about $3000/yr to $6500/yr with Safeco.
I have State Farm auto so I called State Farm and my quote is less than what I paid last year for Safeco plus I get the bundled discount.
With State Farm my deductible went up slightly at 1/2% and my named storm deductible stayed at 2%

I just got quoted in Houston $7036 for the year with a 1.5% deductible.
Had multiple brokerages looking for me and that’s the best deal I could find. I could have got it down to around $6500 but I increased some of the coverages and added a couple of things like replacement cost vs AGV on personal items. The biggest thing was lowering the deductible to 1.5%. This was through Sure insurance with a 2 month old roof.
I’ve got Safeco on my cars and that shite is like $450 a month. $12,400 a year to insure 2 cars and a house

If you have military family (dad, father in law, grandfather) I'd highly recommend USAA.

Is USAA still writing homeowners insurance policies in Louisiana? I know they aren't accepting any new ones in SELA at least.

The escrow departments at these mortgage companies aren't doing any favors the way the calculate and adjust. It seems it could be done on a more level basis rather than the knee jerk reaction we see.

This. I had safeco and it my premium more than doubled in a year. I got with my broker and found a few options that were cheaper than my previous safeco premium

Not if you want a good premium. They are as expensive as it gets.

They price on a grand scale, not just your situation. They are looking at their entire pool of liability. Not that I think it should be that way but it is.

What are you paying annually and have you shopped it ? If the difference is significant could you just save that money by not having a claim for 2 years ? Not saying you should switch it but should at least evaluate your options.

lol, yeah instead of paying 5-6k per year, say hello to $10k or more per year.
USAA is sky high, may be even more than Citizens

I'm with Safeco as well and got the same news on my renewal. Went from $3700 to $9100. I've been shopping around and have found Allstate and State Farm so far to be better options.

USAA was the cheapest out of all the companies when I got a quote last year.
$5500 per year next closest was $6500 with a much higher deductible and worse coverage. The lady told me they were trying to get more involved in Louisiana
