Hawaiian music took the country by storm in the 1920s, thanks to Island musicians playing the mainland vaudeville circuit. Its influence on both blues (bottleneck) and country (steel guitar) would be immense.
Sol Hoopii (1902–1953) was a Native Hawaiian guitarist, claimed by many as the all-time best lap steel guitar virtuoso.
Note he covers the song we now know as "Stagger Lee"

I'd rather it be just slide guitar but there aren't any rules in music, right?
