Wife and I are headed to Bar Harbor next week. Planning to do a whale watching cruise.
Anybody have any suggestions for anything else to check out while there?

Acadia is right there. Lots to do there, but going to the top of Cadillac Mountain is a must. You need advance reservations I believe. Plenty to see driving up and down the coast.

Yeah, those Cadillac mountain passes sold out months ago. Definitely going to Acadia though. Thanks!

I just got back from that trip today. Unbelievable area. The leaves will be starting to turn on the coast more than they were this week. Stewmans Lobster Pound was the best spot for lobster that we found. The day can get crowded, but the nights fall back onto those staying in the town and locals. You may get more visitors as it’s one week later, but it is fantastic. we stayed at the Ivy Manor Inn and from 2 to 5 on most days. They have a guy playing guitar and drinks on the lawn. Very chill and fun. Have a cocktail at the reading room at the Bar Harbor Inn and stroll along the shore path. yes it’s a little touristy, but if you hate that go to the lighthouse on the other side of the island. Hike as much as you can. Have fun.

They open more passes 48 hours at a time. Don’t expect to get the morning slot to see the sunrise, but the rest are not bad either.

quote:Yes. I was on the top of Cadillac Mountain admiring the beautiful views and the most colorful rainbow I have ever seen when my phone started blowing up with the news that Les Miles had been fired. I spent the rest of the time on the telephone.

It’s a wonderful place. If you can and are healthy enough to bike through Acadia that is an amazing experience. I never bike, it’s not conducive where we live, but biked 23 miles the first day and never broke a sweat. If you can get a guide that would be an unforgettable experience. Everyone talks about the Lobster but the best dish hands down is the Blueberry pie. It’s one of the finest desserts on planet earth. Nothing like blueberry pie in the south. Cadillac mountain is great for the sights.
Bar Harbor is a picturesque little town. We stayed at West Street hotel. I would rate it a 10, especially if your view faces the harbor.
Camden is a short distance. Good food, coffee and shops.
Bar Harbor Maine is one of my favorite vacation destinations. You are certain to Have a great trip.
Best wishes to you and your wife.

Camden is a great place, but I wouldn’t call it a short distance. It will take you a while to get down there from BH.

I see you and your blueberry pie recommendation. As my dad used to say, “You ain’t gotta tell me twicet.”
Will definitely have some pie.
Got a favorite pie spot?

It's a beautiful place. If youre there for a week (kind of a long time imo), I reccommend bringing your passport and driving up to Canada for one afternoon. Leave in the morning and just come back that afternoon.
Acadia is awesome. Cadillac Mtn is great, but personally I enjoyed the Beehive trail. Maybe my wifes favorite experience was buying a bottle of wine, and walking the Ocean Path at dusk. Watched the sunset on the cliffs and drank then walked back. It was pretty damn amazing.
If you love seafood, I recommend getting a fried platter at the Thirsty Whale. Best fried clams Ive ever had.
If you so choose, I would maybe leave a day early and explore all of the coastal towns. Man, they're great. Cant wait to go back.

Also, if youre a coffee man, I became addicted to blueberry coffee (sue me) while we were there. Idk why but it was incredible.
