Have a couple buddies and myself, want to go somewhere not too crazy far for a trip to deer hunt and primitive camp. Not someplace with a draw, just somewhere we can get a license and go in and spend three days in there and try and find a deer or two.

Any ideas?

Kisatchie National forest. I like the one around Corney Lake in Claiborne parish because you see deer often.

I've always thought that Tensas was the go to spot for the S LA crowd.

You can make it to Land Between the Lakes in 8ish hours.
Southeast Missouri and Southeast Oklahoma both have WMA and National Forest within 8ish hours.

Doesn’t look like you can camp there

You can camp at Gumbo Acres (public camping) which is right next to Hunters Bend (private camping) on Sharkey

East TX has a bunch of public that's cool to explore.

If it's in your range though- going North sounds awesome- like any of of Midwestern States.

Kitsatchie NF has a public camp on Hwy 472 near parish road 139. It's midway between Zion and Williana.

Very peaceful and isolated in one of the largest swaths of forest in the state

Unless Gumbo acres changed this year it is only open for long term renters.
