detroit was shite for many years, before getting here.

if you tank, like astros, braves, cubs, tigers, pirates, etc you should have a roster good enough 5-10 years later, to make a run at a world series.

These threads are great but once the players prove themselves, you have to pay them. Tigers payroll won’t be that small after they start renewing.

No, if it was this simple, teams like the Pirates, Reds, Rockies, Marlins, A's, etc. wouldn't be perpetually shitty. You have to draft and develop and have competent leadership, just like all sports orgs. It always starts from the top.

Detroit isn't even very good, they're just hot. Just like AZ last year. They have two hitters in their everyday lineup that are good, Riley Greene and Kerry Carpenter. That's it. They just deploy their pitchers well and had some timely hitting. It wouldn't be shocking at all for them to be under .500 next season. They were under .500 in August.

So many people don’t get this about baseball. Ever since the addition of the first Wild Card team back in 1995, the best team rarely wins it all. And it’s gotten even worse with the 2nd and 3rd Wild Cards.

The best team won a lot more in the 1903-1968 and 1969-1993 playoff formats. You still had upsets and the worse team winning in those, but it was a lot more rare than 1995-2023.

It’s a tale as old as the CBA. The 2024 Tigers are simply the 2015 Astros with less talent. They also happen to have the same manager.

I wouldn't say he is cheap. He did more than expected in an effort to re-sign Correa and he walked anyway. He threw a lot of money at Jose Abreu, and Verlander that didnt pan out.

It would be great to have kept Cole, Springer and Correa, but with Bregman, Altuve, and Verlander, that wasn't happening in any market other than LA or New York
