the way we played with a good quaterback, shows the only reason we are 8-5 is becuase of the quaterback situation. I will also say the defense would have played better all year too, had the wind stoped being taken out thier sails. The def feeds off and vice versa. with good qb play all year we are a 2 loss team. and those losses would be to florida and ole miss.

BS. The defense got up for one game after being insulted for 3 weeks.

Offensively, 38 points against UGA. 21 at the Swamp.

Defense was the main problem, and it started with the players not buying the CO-DC's scheme, etc.

Fail...the defense let us down almost all season. The D was supposed to pick up our young QB's, and couldn't do it. QB didn't help, but we still managed to put up decent points even in our losses.

Damn, that explains it. All year long I thought our defensive players stood there with arms in the air because they were confused. But they were doing it to catch some wind after having it taken out of their sails.

Makes sense now.

Really and the solution to the "situation" spent 11 games as either 2nd or 3rd on the depth chart. Don't give me this he wasn't ready earlier in the season crap because as 2nd and 3rd on the depth chart he probably saw very limited snaps in practice, at least until November.

BTW that whole giving up 50+ twice and 30 three times also had something to do with the "fluke" season.

Do yourself a favor and stop living in a delusional world.

Ell great post! Obviously you know football and how a practice is run!

I agree with you. So do 90% of the fans.

We could have started him against appy. state and north texas. After that he would have been
ready for Au.

Like others have said: Defense, Defense, Defense (or lack thereof)

Hopefully it will be better in '09

I thnk it is about 50/50. Our defense lost the Georgia game just as much as JL lost it. Our D played great against Bama and our QB and coaches lost that one for us. The defense crapped themselves against Arky in the second half. No one showed up against Ole Miss. Realistically we could have just lost to Florida and Ole Miss. But, here we are.

I believe that you have a point about the Defense feeding off of the offense. Against Troy, the defense was horrible until our offense started doing something, then the defense started shutting down troy.

I think that our D-line failed just as much as anything else. Our line was suppossed to prop up a young secondary with big time pass rush. And our defense and running game was suppossed to help our QB's. Turns out, the D line underacheived, the secondary really blew, and the QB was a real mess.

Am I the only one that says it was because of both? Throw in a dreadful lack of leadership and this season was the perfect storm of the worst possible kind.

Consider the emergence of JJ and the changes to the defensive staff and I think this season will prove to be just a hiccup. Atlanta bound in '09!!!! And not for a return trip to the Peach Bowl.

Then we don't have a helluva lot of character at LSU - adversity is where character is supposed to be forged. In spite of the plethora of mistakes on offense, plenty of points were still put up on the scoreboard all year. The D simply didn't play anywhere near its potential for most of the year. That's on both the co-D debacle AND the defensive players on the field.

I don't need to demonize a young, totally inexperienced RS freshman QB in JL to appreciate the "it" factor, talent and exemplary leadership qualities JJ clearly exhibited, especially in the first half of the Chickin Lickin bowl Wed eve.

I think the QB job is JJ's to lose going into Spring training, but damned if I'm going to crap on ANY LSU player, especially an inexperienced RS freshman QB coming off a very difficult season. No one is more painfully aware of his mis-reads and picks than JL is. The fact that the young man kept trying in spite of it all is a testament to his character. He's still an LSU Tiger.

really ok. Btw, lee spent a whole extra year in the system, while that makes JJ that much more impresive, it also means the lee had knowledge of the whole playbook at the start of the season.

bottom line, better qb play and we would have won at least 2 of the games we droped. They just gave up after bama, and that would not have been the case had they beat georgia, which they woulda and they would have beat bama. After that they would have steamrolled arky.

From what I heard the weeks leading up to this game were completely different at practice and it was an arse kicking game prep that was no-b.s. which I personally think had as much to do with it.
