I know playing park ball all the way to college the players come together before the game and stretch. Do they take it initially themselves to do it in the pros? I'm never at a game before kickoff, so I don't know. I just don't know how can someone hurt their groin.

These are PROS...of course they 'stretch out' before practice and games ! I don't think you understand the dynamics/physical nature of the game...these are highly tuned athletes and the forces exerted during the game are extreme...injuries are just a normal part of professional football !

Rewatch the play he got hurt on. Would not have mattered how much he stretched before the game.

The nfl has come a long way in conditioning considering back in the 70s when players would have beer before and after games in the lockeroom

Yes typically more than an hour before kickoff they are out there doing individual stretches and rituals in regular workout clothes. Then they will go dress out and come back out for organized drills.

They do dynamic warmups. Less stretching, more explosive based type of movements. Injuries are a part of the game. It just happens.

I don't recall exactly what happened to McCoy that caused his injury, but I know I had an extensive injury to my groin because I was going across the middle and was too close to the 5 yard bump area. MLB cleared me out as an option in the play, and I tore the muscle when I landed awkwardly. No amount of stretching would have prepared the muscle for that.
