Former President Trump said during a campaign event in North Carolina on Saturday that he would recognize the Lumbee Tribe if he was elected for a second term.

“The Lumbee Tribe has been wrongfully denied federal recognition for more than a century,” Trump said while campaigning in Wilmington, N.C., suggesting 100 years wasn’t “that long.”

Good for trump doing the right thing here!

Small tribe in North Carolina who fought for recognition but didn't receive Indian tribal benefits with that recognition like other tribes do.

They may want to reconsider.

Socialism among tribes isnt healthy for its people. They're dependent and impoverished.

Tribal healthcare , housing and other services have been a huge benefit to tribal members at least for the Cherokee nation. What's funny is this is how the tribes has always functioned they've just leveraged the settlers structures for government and businesses by the tribe. Cherokees at least are a pretty socialist group of folks and always have been

They have "free healthcare and college" yet are uneducated and have some of the most poor health outcomes.

Those "free" gubment benefits dont seem to help much.

The Lumbee tribe has been fighting for federal recognition for a long time. How many of the roughly 60,000 Lumbees in North Carolina will now vote for President Trump?

Not many.

Theyre addicted to Democrats. We deal with the same issues here.

I've lived around natives for 30 years, bucko.

They vote Democrat. Youre a fool if you think they'll vote Trump.

I don't think Cherokees have free college we do have scholarships and get in state tuition in several states though. For example Arkansas will give any Cherokee tribal member in state tuition rate.

It seems like you've got a big bucket of generalizations about indigenous Americans and aren't looking at outcomes by nation. We all have various treaties we negotiated and have different cultures, beliefs, and heritage. So it's hard to lump it all in one bucket and say what works or not.

Theyre called "facts."

Only a dipshit like you would argue objective truth.

But what's ultimately behind this low life expectancy, agree Warne and many other experts on Indigenous health, are social and economic forces. They argue that in addition to bolstering medical care and fully funding the Indian Health Service — which provides health care to Native Americans — there needs to be a greater investment in case management, parenting classes, and home visits.

You can pump billions in the system, its not changing their poor health outcomes wich are based on behavior, not access.

They arent voting Trump, dude.

Natives are like black folks, they'll vote Democrat despite outcomes. The native vote is already in the bag for Kamala.

It’s because they’re not an indigenous Indian tribe. The lumbees started as a mix of displaced people including escaped slaves, Indians from other tribes and others that just ended up living in that region. As far as I know there was not a common tribe or culture…..although the Lumbees have claimed quite a few….probably to get govt recognition.

You've always liked them young, asking for pics of posters pre-teen kids.

I'm not making anything up, just going with the odds.

Cool article about the Sioux tribe and their healthcare system.... And how they drag the average down for all natives...this my point in how that's a far different experience than say a Cherokee nation tribal member, or even a creek or Osage native.
