Been twice. It’s beautiful, but crowded. If you’ve never been than go for it.

I prefer Tahoe personally because I know my way around and I don’t have to deal with Canada.

Fairmont if you don't mind shellin out some $

Been there once. Stayed at Lake Loise once and it was great.

It's hard to wrong there. Amenities/ location based on what you are going to be doing is the key

Prices are crazy in that city. Bring everything with you or shop once you fly in.

We just got back. Stayed at a Airbnb for 6 nights in Canmore and the the FAIRMONT the last 3. Thinking about a ski trip. Place is beautiful. Dealing with Canada wasn’t a problem, customs easy, just have to have passport. 3 areas to ski, Sunshine Village is ski in ski out. We did a gondola ride there, looks like if you are a damn good skier it’s good but moderate skier may struggle. Lake Louise more beginner/moderate friendly but also has the tough stuff if you like. Other is Norquay which I didn’t see. Staying in Banff= good vibe and restaurants, pretty, good public transportation to all areas Tourist heavy and more crowded.. Canmore is more quiet and small town, good for chill. Lake Louise has 2 more affordable hotels and the fairmont which is incredible but you pay for it.

Do take a walk on Victoria Glacier.
Don't listen to warnings it's not safe.

My advice is go to Whistler instead for the winter and save Banff for the Summer.

Have to stay at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Arguably one the most beautiful and scenic hotels anywhere. It’s stunning and you won’t regret it. Have cool Canadian bowling lanes in hotel. Top 3 hotel of my lifetime.

Go every year. Stay at Sunshine Village. Get a rental and it’s free to park there at the bottom of the mountain, takes about 40 minutes to get to Lake Louise to ski.

Avoid the weekends during ski season.

Half of Calgary will be there.

I’ve only been to Banff during the summer so can’t help for winter activities. My last winter there I skipped Banff and went snowmobiling in BC.
