Starting to help plan a buddy's bachelor party for the Ryder Cup. We are for sure going to at least one day of Ryder Cup and he also wants to play at least 1 round during the trip. Any public course recs around NYC? Hoping to keep the train ride from Manhattan under an hour/hour and a half unless it's a truly remarkable course.

I can’t help ya as I’ve never played golf around NYC but I will say I am very jealous of the Ryder cup.

I went to the RC at Hazeltine and it was the best sporting event I’ve ever been to. Y’all will have an absolute blast. So much energy

LINK

Provides some Long Island options.

CT has some decent tracks that are a train ride then a Uber ride.

Sounds like you’re staying in Manhattan, so just catch a ride service to Ferry Links. There are some other courses like Pound Ridge a little further out, but the train rides will be 1.5+hrs and Uber will be expensive.

If you don’t care about the quality of the course, you can easily get to Van Cortland Park and Dunwoodie up in the Bronx. They’re typical muni tracks with 5+ hr rounds.

You can also checkout 5 Iron to hit a simulator for a couple hours. They have several around town and I’m sure they will be doing stuff for the Ryder Cup. I play in a weekly league at a 5I in midtown and go to the FiDi location sometimes during lunch—it’s always a good time. Just avoid the flat iron location because they don’t have Trackmans.

Commuting from Manhattan to public golf is extremely difficult using public transit. It’s very difficult even with a car. You really can’t be anywhere in less than an hour.

Ferry Links is definitely the best public option within striking distance of the city and is a top 5 public in the tri state area.

but it’s like $300 for non-residents, I can only imagine they will jack it up that week. So be prepared for that. If you are staying out on Long Island your options open up. Your options open even more if you stay on the north NJ side. That will be a very tough week to golf imo. Just go to 5i

When we visited New York a few years back, my wife and daughters were going shopping and such, so one morning, I took the subway from Manhattan up to The Bronx and played 9 holes at a little public course called Moshulu.

It wasn't a bad course and it certainly wasn't crowded, so I had a good time. They had clubs for rent, too.
