Going out there for a short work assignment (~2 months)
I'll be staying in the west suburbs but will have some time to explore on weekends

I don't know how far you be from Scottsdale, but Toro and La Hacienda in the Scottsdale Princess were both great for dinner.

If in downtown Phoenix, try:
-Pizzeria Bianco (owner won a James Beard for his pizza and was featured on Netflix’s Chef Table)
-Hanny’s at night for a good salad and the quirky environment (check out the bathrooms and the basement)
-Arrogant Butcher for the crispy chicken with crab or the meatloaf (in the conversation for best you will have)
- The Wren and the Wolf (at night) for good drinks, good food and slutty women
- Harumi Sushi - sushi in AZ?, yeah. They use purple rice. Best sushi in AZ, and beyond
- Bitter & Twisted Cocktail Parlour and/or the nearby Little Rituals (same James Beard nominated cocktail program)
- Bacanora PHX (another James Beard destination)
Also take advantage of the Waymo fully autonomous robo-taxi. Download the app in advance.

Like Surprise west suburbs, or Avondale, or Peoria/Glendale?
Can make various suggestions for places depending on where you'll be.

Probably closer to Avondale. Trying to find a hotel close to I-10 since I'll be working out in BFE in the desert.

Friend,
I cannot more forcibly recommend against Pizzeria Bianco. It is now essentially a chain restaurant with horrible customer service and only moderately skilled pizza makers. It lives only on its reputation in the past.
Very few pizzerias that expand maintain any sense of quality. Paulie Gee is one of the exceptions. Bianco is not.

Avondale has mostly chains, but I'll suggest some decent places for lunch/dinner around there and then just places in general.
Avondale area:
Leo's tacos-great place for birria tacos/burritos and breakfast burritos.
Eric's family barbeque-one of the only good bbq joints on the west side.
Zeta's grill- Good Mediterranean/middle Eastern food.
Pappa Paul's brick oven pizzeria- really good pizza
General recommendations on the west side or central Phoenix:
A touch of European cafe- good polish/eastern European food.
Bottega pizzeria Ristorante-good Pizza and pasta. Goat cheese brulee appetizer is excellent.
Comedor Guadalajara-good Mexican soul food.
Otro Cafe is good Mexican as well.
Greek Town is excellent Greek food.
Federal Pizza is top notch Pizza.
Cornish Pasty Company (any of the locations really) is a really cool place to eat, particularly if you've never had pasties before. Lots of good beer on tap as well.
I'd actually agree with Tulane to not necessarily worry with Bianco for pizza. It's not really worth the wait and hassle compared to going to most of the other top notch Pizza places in the city. Pizza is ironically something Phoenix does extremely well.

Thanks. I'm in the Avondale area for now. Did notice a lot of chains. There is a Portillos right around the corner. Haven't had that since I was in the Chicago suburbs

That Leo's tacos place I mentioned is just right past (east of) that Portillos on McDowell.
