Losing Guillory for the season is another reason we can’t have Perkins at MLB

Teams are going to be testing our interior DL and running it right up the middle at Perkins. There has to be a move. Whit Weeks has got to be the guy in the center of our defense and his brother needs to be the weakside LB. You can’t tell me Perkins would be worse than Major Burns at the STAR.

He probably would be. Just like Burns, he struggles in coverage and takes bad angles, at the same time, he also doesn't know the position.

He does not struggle in coverage. He is one of the highest graded players in the country when he drops into coverage. He struggles at being the QB of the defense and filling gaps against the run. Star is perfect for him. Drop him into coverage and blitz him off the edge occasionally.

Perkins is most effective moving around and not staying in the box every play as a stack backer. Put him on the edge, over the slot, lined up in the A,B,C gaps before the snap. Leaving him in the box every play makes it too simple to scheme him out of the game. Baker is a good DC. I trust he’ll figure it out.

This isn’t true.

If used properly he could be a more athletic Troy Polamalu.

An NFL DC will put him in a position like that and he will kill it

I'm not sure what you've been watching, he's an absolute liability in coverage.

Well he was rated among the best in coverage last year and hasn’t spent much time in coverage this year.

But he whatever. Don’t let data change your opinion

I mean you can say no all you want. He is objectively very good in coverage and can run with most WRs. If we continue to play him at MLB teams will gash us up the middle unless he learns how to fill run lanes and communicate better

BB is most likely being over-ruled by BK on this.

He objectively isn't, the coaching staff knows this, it's the reason he doesn't have a true position.

The problem with so many Tiger fans is they believe false narratives and are thus confused as to why the coaches can't see their "simple solutions".

Agree that WW should start over Penn who is still dreadful after 4 years and agree both Weeks bros should play more but trying to force Perkins into the Star role? that's a role he's not trained on and would take away close to LOS/surprise QB rushes - neither of those is a good decision

Sad reality setting in is BK hired defensive clown coaches until this year and didn't track defensive recruiting as well as he should have - hopefully Baker figures it out quick but the personnel and lack of physicality are already appearing as glaring issues that a position swap won't fix

He really was the one guy we couldn’t lose. We have no one as big or strong as him to be a true nose tackle. Just have to hope one of the young guys can emerge or it will be a long season. Sure would have felt a lot better if we had been able to keep one of Wingo or Smith. I think we are just going to have to come to terms that we are a smaller DL than most SEC DLs are but we have to find a way to make that work. I’d like to see more of Savion Jones inside and Reliford outside at DE. This is Ahmad Breaux’s chance to take that job and run with it as I expect he will be the starter next week or maybe Suggs.

He was according to PFF. NFL coaches use PFF along with college coaches so it does hold weight.

I don't have PFF, can you link?

ETA I see where PFF graded Sage Ryan as one of the best CBs in the country, meh
