FWIW, it's no wonder the Kiffins pulled out all the stops to get O. Tennessee is void of any real football talent and the fact that LSU is now raiding the state of Georgia is proof that UT's recruiting ground borders have changed.

Monte Kiffin can't be worth a fiddler's fart at recruiting 17 and 18 year old kids. So if UT and Kiffin are going to have any success they need a guy like O to lie, cheat and steal to get all the players they can. No doubt O will meet those requirements.

Couple with the fact that UT has the largest recruiting budget in the country and they're paying O a ridiculous amount to go there it does seem to be a better fit for both the Kiffin's and O.

Count your blessings guys, I have a feeling having a DL coach with Assoc. Head Coach Title, Recruiting Coordinator and the salary of a DC would have spelled trouble over the next year or two to the likes of Co-DC's.

Think a guy like O wouldn't try to throw his weight around?!? We just avoided making a deal with the devil by having the devil back out of it - count your blessings.

Yet when O was "coming to LSU" he was going to take you guys to new heights.

it wasn't without it's risks.....

obviously the guys strength is recruiting - not exactly something we're lacking in wouldn't you say?

UT needs a recruiter like O much more than we do.....we just need a good DL coach with a little fire in his belly.

New heights as in a #1 recruiting class?
Two National Titles in 5 years?
3 SEC Titles in 7 years with 4 title game appearances?

Thanks Coach O, you're the best.

It may have been best he went to UT. He'll be a part of a new staff and that staff can mesh with him there. I did have some thoughts in the back of my mind how well he would have meshed with our staff. He is a big personality, but maybe not as big as folk make him out to be.

It would have been nice to see how he would have headed up our recruiting. He's coached from Miami to Syracuse to USC so he's covered some territory.

As far his DL coaching, plenty of guys can do that.

I think some folk on here clearly underestimated how much they wanted Orgeron. Looks like Chris Low knew more than folk on here thought.

I think we wanted Orgeron and were somewhat intrigued by him because he was from deep in S La, and could relate with many of our fan base. His national recruiting would have been something new to us. We were thinking more about him helping us put a fence around La. He's like a square peg at a round hole in Tenn. That want work for long, and thats not sour grapes, its fact.

I wouldn't have said that. He is a good, big name hire. But you guys need him a hell of a lot more than we do, and it is most likely good for both our programs that he chose Tenn.

Rocket I never saw O as a long term guy. My concern with bringing him on board was giving him credibility with the HS coaches in state after he left. That would have opened a lot of doors for him to take with him when he left.

Well, I don't follow this stuff too much (because it's all bullshite til the contracts are signed anyway), so I didn't hear what we were supposedly offering him until after he went to UT. Once I found out what the deal was going to be, I was glad he didn't take it. We don't need any position coach that bad, and we sure as hell aren't that desperate for recruiting help.

Just because they don't have the talent of CA/FL/TX or even LA/AL doesn't make them a "void of talent".

drama queen.

Get your facts straight Roaad, you just posted a list of NFL players from Tennessee that date back to 1930 and the list is still only 1 page long.

And when I say void of talent - why would you take that to mean they've never produced a football player? Get a life dude.

I was mortified with O coming to the new staff. We need to let Chavis come in, bring a staff loyal to him, and give him the chance to develop our talent for the long run. O would have been a prima dona and disruptive.

I can't stand the way schools/team owners, etc. hold up and take hostage anyone they want to hire and will not take NO for an answer. They just keep pouring on the money. Why don't they just say "Name your price?" and be done with it.

What new heights are there past #1 recruiting class in the country?

We didn't need O. We don't need him now. We won't need him in the future. Would have been bad mojo having him and Chavis on the same team. Much happier this way.
