Anyone ever done this?
Is it as simple as it sounds or what am I missing.
Battery.
Waterproof box.
Proper cord with terminal clamps.
And ready to go?

TIA

Just get a solar panel for whatever camera you have… will last multiple seasons.

super simple and cheap compared to price of AA batteries. I converted all mine to solar a couple years back now they stay in the woods all year zero issues. occasionally on long periods of no sun ill grab them and recharge at home. but that's about it. battery, waterproof box, solar panel, and wiring. seal box where wire penetrates with caulk when done. I haven't bought a single battery for game cams since fall of 2022. I do feel after this season or maybe late season i may have one or two that need it but imma push the limit and see how long.

Wish I could on solar panels. 98% of locations I use cameras are in thick woods.

Yes it’s about that easy - I typed up how I usually put them together in a thread here. We have about 20 of these on the property and they all work great, but the Chinese lithium batteries can be hit or miss. They’re cheap enough we just replace them if they crap out.

They are probably all made in the same place, but I have had only bad luck with the game winner 12v batteries from Academy.

I swapped to the All Seasons branded batteries along with their solar panels and haven’t had any problems.

12v is only worth it if you do solar.

But amazon has 300 AA for under $50.

Or you can do the rechargeable AA route.

If those are the typical SLA feeder batteries then none of them are gonna hold up well with cameras unless you’re able to couple them with solar or are quick changing them out, sitting discharged is the best way to kill a traditional lead-acid battery. The lithiums aren’t perfect but they do cut themselves off at low voltage and save the battery. The issues we have is just typical Chinese mfg stuff that comes with the territory of getting what you pay for, 7-8Ah lithiums will go on sale for $25 apiece regularly on Amazon. 9 out of 10 will work fine, that one will be dead on arrival and get returned, a year later one will stop taking a charge and go in the trash, etc. Overall still way cheaper than AAs or more premium lithiums.

Herd 360

This is so much overkill, i have mine in a heavily wooded area and it’s still 12.0v after 1 year

It’s all I do on all 29 cams. I’m a 12v guy year round in 3 states.

I consider myself experienced with long distance trail cam power.
