Looking For Recommendations On Cell Cameras
Posted on 8/28/24 at 6:33 pm

Never owned a cell trail cam, always utilized traditional cams with an SD card.
Looking to get two cameras for two separate properties.
1. What’s a good entry level camera that’s reliable?
2. How does the cell service work? Do you add it to a cell phone plan? Or is it a separate monthly charge?

I have a spypoint micro lte and have been happy. Not the greatest but good enough for me. I don’t have the solar and wish I did but I run lithium AA batteries and when I update pics 2x per day instead of every capture they last 6 months. It’s 120$ per year for unlimited pics. HD photos are extra. You request an HD photo from a pic the camera already took. It’s 10$ for 100 HD photos. Kinda nice bc I can pick and choose which photos I want HD. I can only use it at one of my four fields. However, cell service sucks by my lease.

I’ve had covert cell cameras and would not recommend them at all. Pics are not good and app isn’t great.
I currently have 3 Stealthcam Fusion X.
I’ve replaced 2 and currently waiting on a 3rd replacement from the company.
The cameras take good pic and I like the app but they don’t seem to hold up well.
I have 2 tactacam Reveal X Pro. I like the app pretty well and the cameras take really good pics and they have held up well so far (bought last summer).

Tactacam 3.0
$120 per year for first camera
$96 for each additional
This is for unlimited plan but you can go cheaper.

This is your answer. I’ve had 5 running 24/7/365 for the last several years with no issues.

I agree with tactacam. Get the solar panels and never have to worry about batteries again

We run over 30 Tactacams. We love them. Good pictures and battery life is good! We find they last longer on Duracell for some reason.
The app they have has a map on it kinda like onX and we have all the stands on the map.
I have ran SPYPOINT, cuddle back and tactacam. Tactacam is the best so far esp price point.

If you are new to cell cams, it’s good start getting familiar with the basics and language. Check in time, instant and daily, etc all may not mean what you think it does.
Go to website and shop online first for cams that offer the features that you want.
The cellular contract is w the camera provider. Dont matter your mobile phone subscription.
With most you can cancel anytime.
Advice: independent research is far better than leaning on someone else’s opinions.
Good luck!
Edit to add: I work in the trail cam industry. Got questions?
Ask away!

The data plan aspect is separate from any other wireless plan you have. Will be through the manufacturer of your camera. They pay for the data with the carriers or providers.
You just have to pick which carrier will have the best signal strength for sending/receiving data from your camera sites. Or pick a camera that has dual or triple sim cards and can get on whichever network had the best signal strength.
The data plans are somewhat comparable, a lot of people go unlimited, and the cost is about 10 to 15 monthly or a little less if you pay up front for a year.

Spend a little more off the rip and go with Spartan.

I heard those Wise Eye cams are pretty good

We think so too. Our customer is interested in all HD all the time and a long list of data points on all the pics. It’s not for everyone. But if you like data tied to your pics and your weather conditions, we are the solution.

For the money Moultrie Edge is hard to beat and I’ve tried several different brands.

I have Wiseye and Tactacam and the Wiseye is hands down better. Cost a little more but their customer service is second to none. The app they have is the best on the market as well.
Plus they are a Louisiana company from just north of Baton Rouge.
