Who cut down the Gonzales live oaks?

Why would someone do this? The Piccadilly live oak was registered with the society. Too late now & so Louisiana for something like this to happen. What a shame

What society?
My area in Louisiana preserves its trees. This is not a Louisiana thing. This is a typical Ascension Parish thing.
Gonzales doesn’t give a shite about putting quality into its land use planning. They don’t care about themselves. Why should the rest of us?
Now that the trees are down, the best you can do is ask Chick Fil A to plant 2-3 new ones.

Never heard of it but it's gorgeous. Someone cut this down?

So why did the local government approve a site plan that clearly puts a drive thru where that Oak was? They could have resisted and asked CFA to design around them just as Picadilly did. But they didn’t ask. They just rubber stamped this new CFA just like they do everything else.
The parish could have stopped this if they wanted. The people could have pressure the parish if they cared and watched what goes through what passes for a planning commission there. But they didn’t.
Ascension consistently priorities developer’s wishes over everything else. I can only assume that the locals wanted it that way since shitty development is a pattern there.

Been there since around the Louisiana Purchase. Some engineer intern in Portland working on the site plan for Chick-fil-A probably had no idea.

This. They rightfully purchased the lot and everything on it.

CFA probably would spend a fortune on landscaping if the locals asked even after the fact like this.
Too late for those trees.

I bet without looking there's probably another CFA within 1.5 miles. Stumping a 100+ year old live oak for fast food parking is dumb.

Now I get it. Anything for Chick-fil-A. I’m not from there so I didn’t know. I bet they will do a superb job with the landscaping, maybe even a little extra because of this.

Sadly this is most of America now

How many people actually knew this was going to happen?
Pretty hard to stop something that you don’t know is planned.

Gonzales sucks. They shot and killed my catahoula dog that got out of my yard claiming it was a pitbull.
Shot it with a tranquilizer then left it in neighbors yard where she died.

I didn't say it was a good idea. Even local leaders admitted they had nothing in place to stop it.
I do, however despise HOAs, and deed restrictions in a so called free country. They get corrupted and it becomes a pay to play operation and good businesses will move elsewhere and bring the positive economic impacts with them.
When this store opens and they start sponsoring every other travel ball team and sends free food to fundraisers, I hope these residents aren't caught with their mouths full.

Don't patronize that CfA. Force that location to close. Lobby your fricking state to protect its' natural treasures by law. Fine the absolute frick out of the next chain that pulls this shite.

Years ago, the Ascension Parish Police Jury cut down a beautiful live oak that was probably about 200 years old down on my family's property. It looked similar to the one in the OP.
They without our knowledge, clear cut everything down within 100 feet on either side of a ditch at the back of our property. They simply asked permission to clean up the ditch. The tree was easily at the very edge of that 100 feet. We had no idea they were going to clear cut, mind you. Again, they only asked if they could clean it up a bit.
I hate those bastards.
