Angel's Landing at Zion...anybody ever hike it?

going to Zion this fall and was watching some videos on YouTube about the park. While I am not typically squeamish about heights this hike looked pretty dangerous. I believe you need to get ticket esp for this hike too. Thoughts?

I am sure you will enjoy it , at my age I couldn't walk out of sight in a week .

I’ve done it twice, once before it required a permit and again in march of this year. This year was much more enjoyable because there were way less people on the trail. If you don’t get a permit, the west rim past the start of Angels landing in a good option too. I went about 5 miles in and camped overnight on west rim after AL

The hike that leads to the sketchy part…is beautiful but sketchy.
We skipped the final skinny leg bc so many people were on it(100 give or take) that we thought it was too dangerous. People fall and die there.

Yes people have died, and if you have any hesitancy about heights it’s better not to do it so you don’t put yourself or others in a compromising position by panicking on some of the more narrow parts of the trail.
All that said I did it last month for the first time and did not find it very difficult or scary (late 20’s former athlete in decent condition). Was with a group of a few friends who took it slow which was nice, and I was amazed at how many people who appeared to be in their 50s or 60s there were on the trail. There are chains you can hold onto on all the parts where they should be, but overall it’s absolutely worth it to see how incredible Zion valley is from that height.

Did it 10 years ago after sunrise not knowing what I was getting into with the chains and drop offs

You’ll be fine. Take your time. Use three points of contact and don’t rush.

It's been years but my wife and I hiked it three times when we lived in Utah. My advice that worked for me is to keep your eyes focused straight ahead on the rocks. Don't look left or right. The climb itself is not that hard and view from the top is well worth it.

Mother and I have hiked it seven times. It is not a particularly challenging or long hike, but one of the best in the NPS due to the amazing tunnel view of the canyon from the top. It can be dangerous in the rain or snow if it is crowded due to some who have no business hiking trying it, causing clogs of the narrow paths. Other than that, I find it a nice morning or evening hike. It is only about a 1500 foot elevation gain, so it puts it in range of most visitors. There are few views as splendid one can get from such a minimal elevation gain as the one from Angels Landing. It is my favorite hike in Zion (the Narrows are fine once, but with zero gain it is not my type of hiking).

Did it 13 years ago and it was awesome. Not much of a crowd. Did it a couple years ago, the year before they required permits and it was miserably crowded. I’m hoping the permits thin it out significantly.
Either way it’s not bad and I don’t like heights. I’m not sure what it is, have also done Half Dome as well… my theory is that my mind gets acclimated to the height on the way up so by the time I reach the “worst” of it, it’s not that bad to me. But that’s just me. Take your time and enjoy the hike, and bring plenty of water.

I've done it 3 times. If you want a similar view but without the crowds or the cliffs, do the West Rim Trail. Same trailhead as Angel's Landing, but you split off at Scout's Landing (where the permitting part starts).
