I will be in Madrid for work at the end of October, and my wife and I would like to tack on six nights in Morocco.

Has anyone been? I’ve done a ton of research, but would like to get any firsthand experiences.

I can only give 2 specific examples, but some of my German friends were there last year (2 friends in a camper, and one couple who rented a car and drove all around, not all together but separate trips) all said Morocco was extremely safe, economical, and beautiful. No one felt threatened in any way. They said the food was fantastic, historical sites abound, and the people were friendly and not "in-you-face" about trying to sell their wares. Bargaining is, of course, part of the culture, but in a non-threatening way. There is everything from desert to mountains to beaches there. Just use common sense (like anywhere) and nothing will happen. Since then we have wanted to go, just haven't made it yet. I probably wouldn't go to Algeria or Tunesia right now, but Morocco is safe.

Fes is absolutely amazing. Stay at a nice riad inside the old city. Avoid Marrakesh completely. Moulay Idriss was my other favorite part of the trip besides Fes. Train travel very easy/cheap/safe/comfortable. I enjoyed Casablanca but with only 6 days I’d just do Fes, Meknes and Moulay Idriss

What did you not like about Marrakech? Seems like some people don’t like Fes and some don’t like Marrakech.
