Ill be in LV that Friday of LSU/USC with the early morning free. Is Valley of Fire or Red Rocks Canyon the better choice for a short hike? I know it will be hot and the hike short but id love to see the petroglyphs at VOF.

I like VOF a lot better than Red Rock

Red Rocks is a lot closer so depends on how much time you want to spend or how early to wake up

Dont do either unless youre hiking by 6:30... Both are beautiful, VOF is better but further.

Skip both and go to Mount Charleston. My BIL used to live in Vegas and said that was where the locals would go hiking because it was (relatively) cooler than anything else around.

This is correct. During the hotter months we would go to Mt Charleston and hike. The cooler months we would do Red Rock and Death Valley. Red Rock is less travel time and you can do the Calico Hills trail pretty easily. Bring a lot of water

Red Rocks will be VERY hot as there is little to no shade. The hike you want is 20 minutes further at Mt Charleston. I have done both this summer and Red Rocks is great but you need to be there at 6 am. Mt Charleston is at elevation and has trees and is a great hike. You park at 7500 feet (it was 76 degrees when I started) and can climb to 11K.
I almost died on the hike back at Red Rocks. It was brutal by 10AM

The best hike is just on our side of the Hoover Dam.
