Wife has a dell inspiron 2 in 1 we got 3 years ago. Key board lights up but screen won’t turn on. Tried unscrewing the bottom tray and disconnecting the battery to reboot it and that did nothing. Any ideas?

Can you try pluging it into an external monitor?

Pull your memory cards out and re insert them. I've had it happen twice but can't say it's the fix.

In that case, I'd try resetting the real-time clock.

How to Reset the Real-Time Clock (RTC)
1. Turn off the computer.
2. Connect the AC adapter to the computer.
3. Press and hold the power button (around 30-35 seconds), until the power LED blinks three times.
4. Release the power button.
5. The RTC reset is complete after the power button is released.

Just tried. Didn’t work sadly. The keyboard shut down like it was powering off but that was about it.

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode?

Unplug and hold power for like 30 seconds. That simulates disconnecting the battery. Then turn it back on.

Replacing a laptop screen isn't that difficult. You can find even used screens online and they work like a charm.

I have two laptops for work and one bugged out on me so decided to swap the screens with a used screen and it's working fine 2 years later.

Is it the same for 2 in ones? I’ve tried everything suggested at this rate still nothing feel like it’s I either the screen itself or the drivers got corrupted some way or another

If it was just a bad screen, you would still have output on an external monitor. If it were a driver problem, you would still see the Dell splash screen before the drivers loaded. It sounds like it's failing to POST, which means a hardware issue. I'd take it to a repair center and see what they say.

100% agree, though I would want him to confirm first that he attempted these hard reset steps while already plugged into a known working external display with a known working display cable.
