Might drive to Vegas for LSU vs USC

Me and a friend decided last minute that we wanna go to the LSU vs USC game, however we're not interested in paying $1,000+ for a flight. We can rent a car for $300 + gas and we're actually considering driving 50 hours and 3,400 miles round trip.
If we actually do it is this probably one of the dumbest ideas I've ever has? Yes
Would it be a cool story to tell the kids one day? I think so

Do it. Me & my buddies made the road trip to Phoenix for the Fiesta Bowl when we played UCF. Hell of a trip, good memories but wouldn't do it again lol.

Going to build an immunity to desert dry heat. Should be a fun trip. Arizona and New Mexico are very scenic

Good luck! It's 1645 miles and about 24 hours of driving. It wouldn't be so bad if 900 miles of Texas weren't in the route. I personally would keep searching air fare. But some road trips deliver lasting memories, just hope they are good ones for you!!

Do it- me and my buddies drove to Omaha Year and it was a hell of a trip.

I've spent 3 hours yesterday searching for flights to Vegas, Phoenix, San Diego, Los Angles, Salt Lake City, and Albuquerque. There's no flights that I can find that make flying an affordable option for us. If we go we're driving from NOLA to Vegas!

I thought flying into Vegas for this game was my nightmare. I was wrong.
This is my new nightmare.

Hell of a drive but respect if you do.

Fly to PHX then get rental care there. Flight ~$400per and Rental $150 + gas. Flight + 4.5hr drive each way beats the hell out of 50 hours of travel time.

Already looked into this option, only flights that would work time wise are $750+. Once you account for rental car cost we'd spend more than just getting a ticket direct to Vegas.

You’re splitting it 2 ways so you’re probably looking at $4-500/ea in travel. Gas $ will add up quick. At least filling up 7 or 8x.
Unless you’re interested in seeing the country, Personally I’d rather save time & energy and fly to Phoenix or Los Angeles ($300) and drive from there.
That’s $500/ea to fly & rent a car

You’ve got time to drive 25hrs but flight times aren’t flexible??

you can fly nonstop from nola to vegas for less than $200 on spirit. spirit sucks, but not as bad as driving for 50 hours

50 hours in a car is a lonnnng time. There is no way I can go more than about 11-12 hours a day in a car. That aside, expenses will add up. But if you are a glutton for punishment, go for it. Once you get about an hour on the west side of DFW...settle in for an arse whipping.

Absolutely stupid. Price Allegiant air out of Shreveport.

It's not dumb at all if you have the extra time to make the drive. Road trips are awesome
Jeez reading the comments and realized how damn soft people are these days. We used to take road trips out west all the time growing up including to Las Vegas. It's not bad at all and something you'll always remember doing

Southwest, MSY to LAX is $893 for two people
Convertible car rental for the drive across the desert for two people, $250-$300 all in depending on if you pay now or later
$600 for airfare and car with a 5 hours drive

Let me clarify a little, I have to return to MSY/NOLA on Monday 9/2. If I could I would absolutely select a cheaper flight on Tuesday
