I work hard on my steak sear. It takes practice, patience, precision, and care. I'm proud of the natural sear I get on my steaks.

Then I see some easy bake oven using poofter dousing his meat with a coal black rub that makes the sear completely irrelevant. It rubs me the wrong way.
