AC Black flag or Odyssey?

I’ve never been into stealthy sneak around type games. I didn’t like Metal Gear, Hitman, etc. But I played AC Valhalla and loved it because I like RPGs and that era. Beat Viking game imo. II know Valhalla got a lot of hate because it was not like the other AC games, but I guess that’s why I liked it so much. Has anyone played Black Flag and Odyssey? I heard Odyssey is similar to Valhalla in the RPG aspect, but I’ve heard great things about Black Flag too and don’t want to dismiss it before knowing more.

Black flag is the best in their catalog. I wish they would expand the map to the Gulf of mexico

I beat Odyssey a few times, I think I missed the window on Black Flag. I love everything about the concept of the game, but it was their first attempt at ship combat and it's not really that great (I actually like it in Odyssey), and game play wise Black Flag is really dated. It has what I refer to as "contextual stealth", meaning you couldn't crouch unless you were in high grass or something. Story and characters, Black Flag is better, but Odyssey is more fun to play.
I liked Valhalla as well. Beautiful world, but confusing quest log, the large world can become overwhelming, and Eivor is just slow. But still a great game, started a new playthrough recently.
Odyssey will be more to your liking if you liked what you experienced with Valhalla, but I would at least give Black Flag a try. It's widely considered one of the top games, if not THE top game, in the series.
ETA if you do play odyssey, play as Kassandra. The voice acting for Alexios is pretty rough

Odyssey was good enough for me to finish so there’s that. Black Flag gets a lot of praise here but I can never make it to the 2nd or 3rd major island before getting bored with it and moving on.

Odyssey is awesome. Origins is fun as well.

If you don’t like forced stealth and failing missions because you’ve been spotted, there are a bunch of tailing missions that you’re absolutely going to hate in Black Flag (I know I did).
However, there’s only a handful of those types of missions and the rest of the game is pretty awesome. But based on how much you liked Valhalla, I’d say Odyssey or Origins would be a better choice for you.

Black Flag would be more stealthy. Odyssey less so.
No AC game requires stealth in most missions, but Odyssey will lend itself to less stealthy gameplay more than Black Flag will.

I still maintain this: the early AC games are considered more stealthy only because the combat was so horrible and no one wanted to get into an actual fight.
Whatever you say about the modern AC games, being able to crouch is a MUST for a stealth game, and with that you have more options to approach a target or base. My favorite thing in Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla is getting to a big camp or fortress and stealth killing every single one of them without raising the alarms.

Odyssey is still the only AC game in which I 100%. The gameplay in Odyssey is by far the best in my opinion. Black Flag was my favorite prior to Odyssey and I really hope they remake it because modern gameplay with that story would be incredible.

I selfishly hope they remake AC2, but Black Flag would admittedly be awesome and I'd probably finally finish it.

I cannot speak to Black Flag. I missed that boat.
BUT Odyssey was fantastic. I did a playthrough about a year ago and got lost in the lore for a 2nd time.

They're remastering Black Flag so there will be a better looking/performing version out in somewhat due time. AC Odyssey was honestly a revelation. Beautiful scenery, huge world. It' dramatically different from previous AC games.
For what you said, AC Odyssey has infinitely less stealth and plays more like an action RPG. You'll still get a touch more stealth in Black Flag, though the pirate stuff was pretty cool.
Short answer: I'd go Odyssey now and Black Flag remaster when it's available.

Black Flag
Can't beat those sea shanties and the pirate setting

I spent so many hours just listening to sea shanties and blowing up ships.
Wish they would re-master it.

Ubisoft recently announced they are working on remastering some of these. They haven't officially said Black Flag but that's everyone's guess.

I loved Black Flag.
I wanted to love Odyssey, and I did at first, but it just became a grind. Way grindier than it should have been.

i love both.
so my answer
play both.
if you make me choose one, it will e black flag. its the best AC game outside of the Ezio games.

Though I loved Valhalla, that was also one of my critiques. It’s so big and felt like a grind to finish.

Odyssey is a lot of fun.
There is a bit of sneaky fort killings that are great.
And once you get to a certain point , you get to hunt mythical creatures.
There is still naval warfare which is a good way to get loot.

Update. I bought both and tried Black Flag first. Barely made it 30 min. Because of the outdated graphics and gameplay. Moving on to Odyssey. I’ll try Black Flag again when it’s remastered.
