What are these brown pellets in my light switch? (I think I already know)

No other evidence or history or issues with mice or rats. I’m painting our guest bathroom and noticed these behind the light switch. They definitely have an odd odor.

Probably a mouse, but

Cockroach droppings, also known as frass, are a sign of a cockroach infestation and can look like a variety of things:
Size
Can range from tiny pepper specks to grains of rice, depending on the size of the cockroach

Smelling rat/mouse droppings is a bad idea. I know hentavirus or whatever is rare outside of the 4 corners area but it is also certain death.

Well thanks for the nightmares.

I didn’t shove my nose in it. I just noticed an odd odor - more like weird attic/crawlspace smell - and checked the light switch to see where it was coming from. Am I going to die?

It does look more like roach poop though. We’ve had issues in the past with big ones getting in the house.

Ya I have a strange set of fears while being completely aloof to things some people are terrified of.
I think the only cases in the last decades have been on or near Navaho nation. Doesn’t stop me from using a spray bottle and respirator to clean that stuff every several years when they get in the attic.

The size and fact that some are curved makes me think mouse.

Looks like roach poop to me. Also, if it was mouse poop, the area would likely smell of piss.

Vacuum it up and get a duster for diatomaceous earth or silica is even better. Its death by 1000 cuts or dehydration and food safe as well as kid safe but more important will last a long time, the silica has a 5-10 year lifespan.
