In traveling to Canada, is it advisable to exchange cash on U.S. side or Canada? Traveling by auto across border, not through airport.

It’s favorable to the US, so Canada side

Unless you are traveling to an obscenely remote area, the best course of action is always to:
1. Make sure you have, or acquire, a bank account/debit card with no foreign transaction fees
2. Use that card at an ATM once you reach your destination to get the cash you need
- It will ask you whether you want to post the transaction in USD or the local currency; choose the local currency
You'll pay a small ATM fee, but you will come out far, far ahead of the exchange fee that literally anyone will give you.

That's what I did. Found a RBC once I crossed and pulled like $20 so I could play the lottery lol
Never would have needed cash otherwise though.

I went to Canada a few weeks back and never exchanged anything. I used credit everywhere.
Didn't need paper money.
Even dispensaries there take credit.

I’ve only been to Toronto and Vancouver and never used cash ever.
You can pretty much use your cc everywhere.
I would only get cash if you are going to some small town and there was a situation where you might need some.

I spend half the year in Canada and unless you have some unique reason there really is no need for cash. Maybe carry a few bucks just to have it and for that little amount it doesn't really matter where you get it but the only place I ever use cash is when they charge cover to get into bars and that is it
Everything else is with credit card and have had zero issues using my card that doesn't have an international fee
