Hey yall. Headed from Shreveport to Panama City Beach. Family of 5 with a 10 month old so Slidell ended up being a good place to duck off for a break and grab a bite. Random, I know, but wondering if anyone had any suggestions for us. Thanks in advance!

There’s better places in Covington/Mandeville. Why not stop there? Slidell is a meth town.

There's an old school soda fountain in Old Town.

I’ll never return to SouthSide Cafe after the way he tucked tail on the nazi flag issue. It would have been over in a few days but he caved to the mob.

ETA: have been gone from Slidell 10+ years but it was a great place to live then. Since you have kids, I'll mention a few other ideas:

Palmettos. Bonnie C's, and Times Grill are located next to Heritage Park. Would be great to let your kids burn off some steam.

Rusty Pelican in Mandeville. Pretty accessible from I-12 and can take a visit to the lakefront (if no thunderstorms). Nice area.

Hope you have a great trip.

Ahh yes. A military museum housed in a mini-Margaritaville.

It’s like the clashing of two very different types of trashy.

I don't recall anything trashy about Southside. They have some cool memorabilia and show great respect to Slidell residents KIA.

Grilled YFT w/ their onion rings is a great meal.

Tell us more about the flag issue. I like Southside so I’m genuinely curious

Curious why no one is mentioning Middendorfs? Is it not as good as the location in Manchac?

I think Middendorfs in Slidell is better than Manchac. I highly recommend it in Slidell

Southside has a bunch of military artifacts and such. One of them was a a nazi flag that was taken as a souvenir during the war and some Karen made a big dealmout of it. They eventually took it down. Someone correct me if I am wrong
