Dick move by landlord cost the tenant 50% of her business. The owner is Ricky C. Miles of Lenoir City TN.

His being within his rights to hang the sign doesn’t mean he isn’t a total prick for doing so.

Looks like she's related to Chris Hemsworth so she should be ok.

If I was a business owner I wouldn't want any political statements in front of my store. As Jordan said, republicans buy shoes too.

Hanging a political sign above your tenants business is a prick move across the board.

If it cost her 50% of her business I'm sure she would have. Not every person feels the need to bring politics into every single aspect of life.

My wife's family is from this town and friends with the business owner.

It's funny to see this get as much attention as it has, the business owner has up signs saying how they don't support the biden harris sign now. The entire town wants it gone. The owner of the building doesn't seem to be as known in the town, so not sure if he is an outsider that bought up the real estate when they redid things on main street.

Lenoir City is very conservative, so this is very bad for her business.

Maybe, maybe not. Most business leases control their signage. A landlord can't put signs up without tenant approval.

Yeah I would be interested to see what a lease contract says about an owner of building directly affecting the profits of the lessee.

i don't disagree. but, i think the current political climate makes it a bigger deal than it may have been in the past.

is there really any way to prove that it cost her 50% of her business?

City Administrator Amber Kelso said Miles was within his rights to hang the banner, as it was on his property and protected by the First Amendment.

So the city doesn’t have a large signage law for downtown businesses? Louisiana has an “oversize” signage law for political signs so I’m sure it’s constitutional or it likely would have already been challenged.

She's right but unless her lease controls the whole building, I don't think she has a case.

Tennessee does have a law protecting political signage from hoa/city/county laws, but the size of this one I don't think is protected. Since it is political signage, it probably falls under different laws. A lot of political signage got more protected with laws during the last election when Trump signs were targeted.
