Yeah those busting on the shooter for missing from so close don’t understand that angle.

Trump and we, were damn lucky. A few degrees different angle and we are mourning Trump today.

Yeah, various talking heads in the media keep repeating the line that Trump “came within inches” of death.
There’s no plural about it.
He was an inch (maybe less?) away from a grave outcome.

You stand correct. It was Devine intervention. This could have potentially started another civil war and hundreds of thousands would have died because of this act.

People busting on the shooter for missing have never fired a gun before.
You have to deal with distance, elevation, wind etc.
And Trump wasn't a totally stationary target.
He wasn't casually shooting at beer cans on his Grandpappy's farm.
There are always those "why didn't they just shoot the gun out of his hands" idiots who watch too many movies.

Thankfully Trump turned his head at just the right time.

That’s why I won’t shoot a deer or a pig in the head. I’ve missed, I’ll admit it. Damn heads move around way more than the vital chest area or base of the neck.

We’re fortunate the shooter was also an inexperienced idiot who tried to take a head shot rather than center of mass. If he had a decent rifle cartridge, he would have penetrated any bulletproof vest or body armor Trump was likely to have been wearing.

The New York Times has a picture of the bullet passing his right by his head.

Good catch.

Ever thought of joining the Secret Service as a "spotter"? I think they are hiring.

About the only variable taken out at that distance is bullet drop. At a 200 yard zero the 5.56 should be within an inch up or down from 100 to almost 300 yards.

One of the more difficult aspects of long range shooting is how your bullet is dropping out past 600 yards. I shoot a 7mm PRC and the corrections at 1,000 yards aren't easy. My spotter will call an impact 2 feet long but the adjustment isn't for 24 inches the bullet arc is out of the world at that range.

Now that I have my rifle pretty well doped in though I can go from 400 yards to 1,200 yards pretty quick - knowing my elevation adjustments. Now its just about windage.
