Good morning, I am leaving on a cruise out of Galveston on Monday and I am expecting it to be a very rough ride. Has anyone ever sailed out with a storm coming in? Just curious as to how bad the gulf will be. We are supposed to go to Cozumel and Costa Maya, right where the storm is going through now. Wondering if they will not stop at those ports and make it a cruise to nowhere and just come back after floating around. Royal Carribean has not said anything as of yet.

You’re worried about the storm? Better worry about catching a stray fist in the pizza line

I'd be surprised if they left Galveston at all considering the expected timing of the landfall in Texas being Monday in the AM.

I’m surprised they haven’t changed your itinerary. Ships sail away from bad weather. A hurricane sucks up all of the unstable energy, so everywhere else is usually calm and beautiful.

What ship?

The itinerary could definitely change mid sailing. Happens all the time. If you're concerned with changes due to weather I would consider getting a credit and moving the sailing to another time with a little more clarity.

Mariner of the Seas

I also would be surprised if we actually left since the storm is supposed to hit that area around Monday.

If the storm stays on the current track I don't think you would have severe weather issues. It won't be that hard to sail around the remnants and sail away isn't until early afternoon. Again, just looking at the current path projections, by 4 pm or so on Monday the storm will be well inshore.

Now, whether or not they have storm damage or not is a total guess.

Western Caribbean trek won't be great, if you even leave.

Cozumel's waters might not even clarify by then and there wil be massive clean up.

I have a friend who runs a dive operation out of Cayman and their water clarity isn't back yet and they are a day ahead of the Mayan coast.

Good chance you go somewhere else.

My sister and mother ended up in the Keys when in a similar situation as you are facing.

At this point I really wouldn't mind going to the Keys. I cannot imagine anything in Mexico will be that nice.

The cruise party was already trashy before we even added in the Galveston part

You can go ahead and forget about Costa Maya, I don’t see how they keep it as a destination since they never can stop there.

bad enough to even go on a cruise but to be headed somewhere that just got whacked by a cane is going to be a huge suck.

Since the residents of Key West voted to eliminate cruise ships in 2020, the only available privately owned dock doesn’t have much an availability to take in an unplanned boat.

Met a couple who passed near a hurricane on a cruise to Bermuda. Even the crew got sea sick and the most entertaining thing was the 6 foot waves in ship's swimming pool.
