DO NOT ever threaten someone for risk of losing gun rights.

The SCOTUS says your gun rights can be infringed. Wow!!

For instance, a person feels "threatened" because someone legally carrying a gun makes eye contact with them.

What happens next is now an unknown!!

The door just opened very wide for lawyers to make bank.

Lawyers looking after lawyers.

Are you talking about the case where if an armed person threatens the court they can be disarmed?

I think "not threatening someone" is also an option on the table.

It actually opens the door for states where OPs are issued. Most states already do this unfortunately. It’s crazy someone can accuse another and have no due process with rights being taken away.

He's probably talking about Rahimi, with the guy under a domestic restraining order following his assault of his girlfriend and shooting at a witness.

It would be indeed. Good thing that isn't what the decision said.

The guy in the case beat his girlfriend in a parking lot and shot at a witness, violated a restraining order multiple times, and threatened someone else with a gun while under that order. Oh and it gets better, he was involved in numerous additional shootings after that where he did things like shoot at another driver in a traffic accident.

Slow down on the white knighting.

Doesn’t matter specifically to that now. Now it’s enforced anytime there is an order of protection, firearms are taken.

A domestic violence restraining order, yes. I don't have a problem with that.

You realize someone could be making a false allegation, person doesn’t get arrested, and guns are taken before court.

Yeah that’s a big no dawg from me.

That decision is way more nuanced than that and the guy challenging the statute was the worst possible petitioner.

Also, Kavanaugh's concurrence is worth a read.

The order would be lifted once the allegation is determined to have been false, no?

You’re assuming that person would be found clear when the burden of innocence is gone. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Cannot be understated enough. The guy either shot, shot at, or threatened to shoot someone like 10 times after he beat his girlfriend and was slapped with the restraining order, before his guns were seized.

I see you appreciate the activity of one individual taking away a right hundreds of millions enjoy.

Obviously, you did not read the decision. The SCOTUS obviously took this case knowing it was a very weak case regarding the 2nd Amendment. Regardless, the threat level is not defined so, well, here come the lawyers.

Who is talking about criminal guilt or innocence?

ETA: Justice Thomas, I suppose.

Hundreds of millions of people enjoy their firearms after getting a DV restraining order?

I knew things were bad in Biden's America, but not that bad.

That’s the thing, this isn’t even criminal. It’s the second someone files an order of protection. Why do you lose rights before court?

Would it not be from when the court issues the order of protection? Its not like you can just submit an online form and get one of those issues.

But then again, I don't beat my wife or shoot at people during traffic stops, so maybe I don't know the process.
