Ozone treatment for car- UPDATE

I just bought a used car for one of my kids and the prior owner was a smoker. Consulted with a building restoration cleaner in New Orleans who advised that the way to neutralize smoke odor in a car is an ozone treatment.
I can rent an ozone generator in Lafayette but I would prefer to have an experienced person do the treatment to avoid the potential harm to the car of overdoing it.
Any ideas?
UPDATE:
So I followed the majority collective advice and bought a cheap Chinese ozone generator on Amazon, total cost, $53. Ran it for 15 minutes then aired it out. Smells like a spring rain. Smell is about 95% gone. If after a couple days there is any residual, we will do it again to finish it off. Chemistry is like magic sometimes. Thanks

Buy one cheap off Amazon, they aren’t expensive
Will prob need to do it more than once
Just remember to open windows for a bit after the treatment

I have one I have used for rentals or house flips. It does a whole house. Was like $100 on Amazon. I also have built smaller ones for hunting clothes. Just don't sit in the car with it running and there is nothing at all to worry about.

Try Ozium first. I've had luck with it when a mouse died in a wall or under the floor. You can buy it at Walmart, Lowes, and such.

The problem with cars is it gets into all the fabric under seats on roof and a/c ducts, etc. I bought a car for my daughter that was from a smoker. Tried everything but it still lingers. Shampooed all the fabric too. Good luck.

I bought a small one off Amazon for about $80 when a rat died in our truck. Ran it about 20 minutes and was probably too long but did the job. If the wife couldn’t smell it afterward then the odor was gone - lol.
Think a lot of dealers and detailers use them for odors too. Just air it out good before you get back in it

overdoing it
It's just another O. Your consuming 2 of them constantly. What's wrong with one more?

Run the AC on recirculate too so it can work in the vents.

Don't forget to change the cabin air filter too - easily overlooked but it holds on to smoke smell just as bad as fabric.

We would run these in rentals at least for 25 minutes if the smell wasn't great. Could take up to 45 minutes if it was pretty bad. Need to actually detail/shampoo the fabric in the car if the smell is really bad. Clean the headliners. I'd suggest getting someone who details professionally and has a steamer/car shampoo vacuum. But this tool right here is what you'll want to rent.
Full blast on high heat, recirculating, and change out your cabin air filter.

If you want tonget that 5% out, get an Ozium 2oz fogger and bomb the car with it. Same process with the machine.
