Headed to San Diego for a conference on front end of next week. Staying at Loews Hotel & Resorts Coronado. Sun-Wed.

Wife is coming out to meet me on Thursday & staying until Sunday. Kinda throwing this together last minute because we found a babysitter.

I will have a rental car, and all I have planned for now is Zoo on Friday & gonna hike Torrey Pines Trails on Saturday. Fly out Sunday morning.

Came here looking for recommendations on hotels/areas we should stay in from Thursday to Sunday.

Pacific Beach? Ocean Beach? Mission Beach? Other?

We aren't necessarily looking for the spa/resort vibe this go-round. She has never been to San Diego & we don't want to be trapped on a resort property. The above locations look like there is a lot of bars/restaurants in walking distance while still being on the beach.

I am open to all suggestions & experiences on what to do, & more importantly, what to avoid. Restaurants, Hotels, etc.

TIA

The Catamaran is in a great location a block from Pacific/Mission Beach on the bayside. An easy walk to the boardwalk and there are tons of bars, restaurants and coffee shops as well as shopping on Mission Blvd. The Lodge at Torrey Pines and the Hilton Torrey Pines are both adjacent to the golf course and are located very close to La Jolla as well as Del Mar and Solana Beach. All three have good dining and drinking options as well as proximity to the beach and Torrey Pines State Park. I don't do the Gaslamp anymore as I prefer to be closer to the beach but there are tons of hotel, dining, drinking and shopping options down there.

Spend some time in LaJolla. Eat at George's at the Cove if possible.

You can check out the Gas Lamp District (bars and retaurants also historic hotels), Old Town State Park (eat at Casa De Reyes if you go there), and see Seaport Village. I think you can ride the Trolly line to all of those. If you have time check out LaJolla Cove, it is beautiful.

Here's the trolly map.
