Not sure how many people actually listen to the Pels on the radio, but that is a big win for them. 100.3 has a range of approximately 20 miles

Pelicans were with Entercom now Audacy a few years ago and the reason they were bought out was lack of numbers tuning in. So this will be an interesting switch.

But the reach at night hits 20+ states so those outside the New Orelans area should be able to tune in

This is great news. When I’m driving home from work at night I try to catch the game on the radio, but it’s almost impossible to get a clear signal.

Wonder if Gayle made them take the Pelicans to keep the Saints.

No one is going to listen to an AM signal except geezers.

That is likely the case, I'm sure it was leveraged.

Also, I wonder if WWL will now actually be forced to cover the Pelicans and hire some actual people that know basketball.

The most interesting thing about this move is Gus Kattengell is the in studio host for pre/post game.

Being a former WWL sports employee who left on bad terms and current ESPN radio host should likely open that position

I'm sure Gus is staying where is and is losing that gig and WWL will have their own person. Sucks for Gus

Smartest business decision she has ever made.

Every year the Saints have to renew their contract with the radio station so I guess it's until someone breaks from the other.

Pretty sure I streamed the radio broadcast on iheart a few times while I was driving and getting out of WRNO's signal range (I go back & forth between Hammond & Baton Rouge nowaday)

Or maybe it was on SiriusXM... 1 of those

(for this argument to work it would have to be iheart since the app is free)

ETA: WWL is not on iheart... but it seems like you should be able to stream the radio broadcast on the Audacy app

Using the Audacy app is an exercise in frustration, and based on what I've experienced, sports PBP is blocked when you're outside the listening area of the station.

Pretty sure the Pelicans app streams every radio broadcast, don't know if they block it outside the city though.

99.5 has better range.

105.3 is definitely an upgrade.

Good. Those national sports radio guys on WWL evenings and weekends suck. Rather hear the Pels.

How come WWL never added a night show like they had for years with Scoot from 8 to midnight?

After Bobby and Mike’s show it goes to CBS sports.

Didn't they have one and the gay dude that hosted it got caught trying to do a Jussie Smolet?
