I almost started a thread saying Bama moves to the backseat and Texas becomes our biggest recruiting rival. Well, here goes...
quote:

FACT or FICTION-Texas is LSU's biggest threat to recruiting elite talent inside the state of Louisiana.

Suchomel: FACT. It feels like over the past decade or so, Alabama and Nick Saban were usually the ones going head-to-head with LSU for elite talent in the state of Louisiana. With a coaching change in Tuscaloosa, it’s starting to feel more and more that LSU and Texas have been and will be battling it out for some top talent, both in Louisiana and in Texas.

Other SEC programs will certainly continue to recruit Louisiana heavily since it’s a state loaded with talent, but Steve Sarkisian has openly stated that the Longhorns would like to try to dip into the Pelican State for players due to some staff connections to the state from guys such as Terry Joseph and Brandon Harris. I expect that will only increase with Texas officially joining the SEC and it should shape up for some interesting recruiting battles in the coming years.

Spiegelman: FACT. LSU coaches have always had a massive upper hand recruiting in their backyard. The biggest obstacle was when former LSU and Alabama head coach Nick Saban entered the fray, which paved the way for some historic recruiting battles for the likes of Leonard Fournette, Landon Collins, Dylan Moses, Sage Ryan and more. The Alabama offer still carries a ton of weight, and national offers from Georgia, Ohio State and others often move the needle in Louisiana, too. However, since Steve Sarkisian's arrival in Austin, there is no doubt the Longhorns have become the biggest thorn in LSU's side.

This Texas staff has evaluated prospects at a very high clip and recruited them even better. GM Brandon Harris has ties to Louisiana and DB coach Terry Joseph has consistently given them a foot in the door. Compound that by Sarkisian's personal touch in recruiting from the head coaching position, a change of conference and one of the country's best up-and-coming rosters, and the Longhorns are a program geared to continue to recruit Louisiana and nationally at an elite level.

What they need to say is that LSU may become the biggest thorn-in-the-side of the Horns by stealing Texas elites...

I could care less about either of those coaches trying to poach from Louisiana. It doesn’t have anything to do with that. Texas has deeper pockets.

That Lamborghini dealership that is giving Texas players cars to drive while in college is a huge advantage that other schools don't have. I mean think about 17-19 year old young men who probably didn't have a car to drive while in High School, now have the chance to drive the type of car that is in all the music videos, all the social media pictures, and seem to be a big hit with the females. That is something I think would be a very big selling point for recruiting. I bet those cars probably more important to recruits than even the money deals. At least in the beginning or their college careers.

So, is that why we are about to flip some Texas DLs?

TX is just recreating what Dumbo at aTm did a few years ago. Really worked well for them didn't it?

I'll take Bo Davis over Brandon Harris anyday for recruiting
Deep pockets will talk over everything else and Aggies and Longhorns are LSU's and entire SEC's biggest threat
And if things don't change SEC teams won't be happy

This would be nothing new. Also isn't as impactful as it would be if Texas started taking impactful LA kids we want. Texas has 100 power 4 kids a year. We have 25. Of the 25, 10 usually are LSU offers, another 5 or so on the border of "LSU good" or not and the rest never get the time of day from us. It's the aged old "per capita" stat we love so much when mentioning the NFL.
If in the next 2 cycles Texas gains a foothold in the state actually taking kids, it's a bad sign. Our staff was put together with those cycles in mind. The most LA rooted staff we've had in decades. If they can't fence in the state it can't be done.

I would be more worried about Texas figuring out how to actually use those athletes than the Aggies.

I dont think this is wrong, but we are also the biggest OOS threat from current SEC for TX recruits in turn as well

Texas with great facilities and a great city is by far the toughest recruiting competition for LSU. If they ever really figure it out they will be tougher than anyone in the country. NIL and their huge wealth base. Again tougher than anyone.

Meh, they don’t have better facilities than any of the big dogs around the country.

great city

You been to Austin lately? It’s basically the west coast planted in the middle of Texas. Homeless people everywhere.

Being able to buy players doesn’t equal winning championships. A lot more goes into being a championship contender on an annual basis. Throwing money at an 18 year old only makes things more complicated inside the locker room.

So because he played at LSU, Brandon Harris can magically steal LA players?

That’s a weird take.

But Brandon was able to telegraph to the defense where he was going to throw the ball better than just about anyone . . .
