My wife is really interested in going there for one of our next big trips. It looks like for a small place its a great destination with some cool stuff, and most people I have seen have really liked it (despite what everyone says is horrible traffic for small island nation.)

Curious to hear from those that have been.

One caveat...the trip would likely be in winter so not warm enough to get in the water.

Have not been but on the same wave length. Looks awesome. That and Sardinia are on my list.

I thought about including it in our trip to Greece but I think that may end up being to much for 1 trip

I wouldn't do that. Greece by itself is already too much

TL/DR alert

Went for 5 days last August/September. Had a direct flight to CDG then flew CDG-MUC-MLA.

We knew we wanted to explore the island on our own and rental cars were super cheap so despite the left hand drive, I rented a car to get to the Marriott. The heavy traffic actually helped as I just followed the car in front of me for the roundabouts. Wimped out and got an automatic since I didn’t want to shift left handed but it wasn’t that much more expensive.

Marriott was extremely nice with big rooms for Europe. Two pools, one indoor and a huge outside one. One star Michelin restaurant just outside the entrance but we didn’t eat there. Walkable to Sliema and Paceville areas.

Sundays is fish market day in Marsaxlokk (sp?) and we drove there. Seafood was great there and everywhere.

Highlight of trip was catamaran cruise (not private, we did a tour) to Camino. Weather was fantastic. I am not a boat guy but I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the scenery.

We went to Valletta and the three cities and there is so much history there I could have spent much more time there.

The landscape is unlike anywhere else in Europe I have been. No big forests. My wife had read the service was bad in restaurants but we didn’t experience any of that.

I’d go back in a heartbeat, but would only do so at the same time. July is hot.

There appear to be some resorts outside the normal area not marketed to Americans that look nice.

Feel free to ask any questions, and if you go do like I do and eat grilled octopus daily and wash it down with Cisk beer. Plus as you explore to town sample the pastizzi. I had the national dish which is rabbit but I’m an Alabama native so no big deal.

We have been traveling to Europe for a while now, sometimes twice a year, and it may be an unpopular opinion but it turns out my favorite trips have been the ones where I hear the least American English. This was one of them.
