Does Memorial Day include confederate soldiers?

Please weigh in on a debate. I say it does and the searches seem to support that. Especially since all confederate soldiers were granted a full pardon by president Jackson.
So OTHERS say it doesn’t include confederates and originated with a black gathering in 1868 in Charleston to remember fallen Union soldiers. I read it started with southern women who gathered to de irate graves of confederate soldiers and then they decided to also go ahead and rldeckrate the Union dead graves too and that caught on and untimately transformed into Memorial Day.

Yes but that isn’t a nationally recognized holiday. I think it’s a Texas thing.

Originally Memorial Day was called decoration day. A day where people decorated the graves of soldiers who’ve died both union and confederate. It at least to me, was a way of healing after a bloody war. A way, both sides could come together and mourn the loss of life. They also had a reunion where both sides got together. It’s hard for people today to understand why people joined the fight on both sides. They only see confederates as slave holders, and the idea everyone owned slaves in the south.

Lincoln pardoned all confederate soldiers after the war and wanted to welcome the south back into the country. If he had the wisdom to do that right after the conflict, I feel it's appropriate to honor them as well, despite their cause.

The point of Memorial Day is to honor those who died serving the United States. Confederates served the Confederate States, not the United States. A pardon means they are forgiven, not that they served the US.

There is a Confederate Memorial Day that each Southern state use to observe. Biden and that piece of shite Loyd Austin are responsible for the removal of the Confederate Memorial in Arlington. Frick the federal government to hell. There is no way in hell that I would fight for or defend that government and that includes never wanting my sons to serve to defend the federal government.

While I don't disagree, there were plenty of men who served in both at some point, be it before or after the civil war.

No. Just because Confederates were pardoned doesn't mean we honor them. They were traitors who fought against and killed U.S. military personnel, and that's what they should be remembered for.
