I havebt really seen our pitchers add a lot of pitches. now lost of them are young and there is a ton of turnover.

Christian Little has pretty promiently added a nice cutter to his mix, so that's one you can look at.

The problem with just adding a change up at this level is if it doesn't look the same as the other pitches, collegiate batters will put it in the stands. I appreciate that just a change of speeds alone with this level of hitter won't be enough to make it effective. Someone else may have more insight though.

sure but like I said I am surprised we aren’t trying to add sinkers. And i’ll fully admit i’m a casual, but that seems to be something we’re see more and more of in the MLB because it looks the same it’s just a different grin.

I think you are about right. If you don’t have a feel for a changeup, it’s basically just a meatball if it’s over the plate. You need some serious fade and deception for it to work and that’s not something you just learn on the go.

I know the Astros have been intentional in drafting pitchers that have a feel for a changeup, then developing a breaking ball when they are in their system. It seems like that’s a much easier approach than trying to teach a changeup.
