Kirk Herbstriet mentioned last night about how TCU is always known as having one of the toughest defenses in the country. Have any of you heard that or know anything about the coordinator there?

Gary Patterson was never a co-defensive coordinator with Bradley Dale Pevito.

J/K. Dick Bumpas' name has been thrown out a lot on this board and was actually one of the first names to be mentioned. Problem a lot of people have is that Gary Patterson is the head coach and people say he runs the defense. Think Muschamp under Saban, which is what the Bumpas supporters argue, except that it's in the Mountain West Confrence which is what his detractors say.
He hasn't really been mentioned much as one of the frontrunners for the job though. Mostly it's been Chavis and Walker at this point.
Hope that helps

okay, that's who Dick Bumpas is. I really haven't been under a rock...just a very short memory and terrible with names.
Thanks

According to a lot of the idiots on this board, Bumpas is not a very good DC.

TCU did a great job against Utah and admirably against OU (35 pts w/ 3 or 4 sacks).
It will interesting to see how their D fares' against Boise tomorrow night (12/23/08). Should be a good game.
The thing with Bumpas is how much of a role is his in TCU's defense. Some think he just picked-up on Patterson's cruise control. Others feel the student (Bumpas) has become the teacher (of Patterson) and TCU's defense is basically his now.
Hard to get a good read on him. He's a little older and has toiled among the college football backwaters (not meant to be derogatory) for some time which suggests he's not that talented or is a late bloomer.

TCU's D's are ranked near the top in the country every year. They held OU to their lowest point total on the season and sacked Bradford 3 or 4 times. Why? Are you one of the ones implying that he's not a good DC? If so, you need help.

I think gary patterson does a great job coaching that D.

Ok, Gary.
I think you do a good job too.

I didn't see Bumpas make a single signal to the D the entire game. It was all Patterson when I was watching. He appears to be an observer.

Much like the great Muschamp at one time.
You do realize Bumpas has been a coach for 30 years and played in the SEC!
I like the Defensive scheme either way........who runs a 4-2-5 these days besides TCU?

According to some of the idiots on this board, there isn't a good D coordinator on this planet.
