OT Mechanics - Question on Lead Wiring/Harness

Is there any way to insulate or place some type of protective coating over lead wires to prevent rats from causing damage? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Peppermint oil is the only real thing that works.
You think rats are bad on car wires? Go look at the mess on a grain combine.
Deere tried to used a soybean based insulation 25 years ago and it was a rat/mouse magnet.
Spray peppermint oil wherever you don’t want them to eat.

I don't know of anything that works other than killing the shite out of the bastards. Think they have some spray that is bitter that honestly probably doesn't work or only works for a few months. I've heard of people sprinkling cayenne pepper everywhere but I've also heard of the rats eating the pepper as a snack.
Having rodent in cars is a nightmare. I know of one lady who has chipmunks eating up her Tundra so bad she opens her hood every time its parked so they don't feel as safe in the engine bay. When she sells the truck the next person is probably going to wonder why the hood latch is nearly worn out.
I Keep a couple snap straps in the engine bay when my weekend car is parked over the weekend. Usually only keep them in there during the winter which is when when I have an issue with mice/rats.
Good luck. they can cause thousands in damage if you cant find a mechanic who is skilled enough to locate a bad wire and just start changing parts that aren't even bad.

An old farmer I knew used to hang a couple socks filled with mothballs in the engine compartment of his equipment. He said it always works. He's long since dead and buried so take that into consideration...

Keep a couple of outside cats watered and fed but do not feed them regularly. What rodents they don't kill will suddenly remember they have business elsewhere. If you feed the cats too much they will work but not as well as they will if slightly hungry. They will kill or run everything off, bugs, snakes, lizards, birds...they don't care what it is if it moves its a target and they LIVE to kill shite the psychotic frickers....

Honda makes rodent tape. It has capsaicin in it. Just google honda rodent tape. It's not cheap.
