The judge originally assigned to the trial of Trey Holly has recused himself

Read an article and saw that Trey Holly may not get to play this yr. Judges were changed on his case due to conflict of interests, and his case may not go to trial until next yr. Does LSU reinstate him just to possibly lose him again? Or do they wait until it's all over, and Holly loses out on a yr of playing

Here's the news part of it:

UNION PARISH, La. (KNOE) - The judge originally assigned to the trial of Trey Holly has recused himself due to a conflict of interest. Judge Monique B. Clement is now over the trial.
Michael Small, Holly’s attorney, said the original judge recused himself because his son-in-law is a deputy with the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office and was actively involved in the investigation of the case.
Holly was arrested in February 2024 on three felony charges relating to a shooting incident in Union Parish, which caused his suspension from the LSU football team. Holly’s charges included attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and aggravated criminal damage to property.
In April, a jury rejected the charge of attempted second-degree murder against Holly. However, they did bring a charge of illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality against Holly.
Small has filed several pre-trial motions asking for the disclosure of evidence in the case, and he said he expects to get that material soon from Assistant Attorney General Darwin Miller.
With plans to be out of the country for part of December along with an expectation of receiving “rather voluminous” evidence, Small said he does not expect the trial to happen before the first or mid-part of 2025.
“I look forward to trying this case to a jury in Farmerville and am confident that Trey will be found not guilty,” Small said.

Team vote to reinstate Trey until trial begins?

Call me what you want, but if this kid is in any way, shape, or form involved with the shooting, I don’t want him anywhere around the team

saw the same thing
innocent until proven guilty but if the case draws on that long what do you do?
I guess Holly could litigate and force his way back like the Illinois basketball guard did if LSU doesn't reinstate him

The case is not going be tried before (or during) football season. While he was not indicted on murder charges, he is still being charged with a felony. I suspect as long as that charge is pending Kelly/LSU is not going to allow him to rejoin the team.
Now, that could change if the charge was reduced before the season and Holly pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor. Though he would still likely have to serve some sort of internal suspension, with the case resolved Kelly would probably allow him to rejoin the team in time for this year. However, there is no requirement/guarantee the prosecuting attorney would offer a reduced charge for a plea OR that Holly would accept it.

He’s innocent til proven guilty- let him play.

How often does this judge have to recuse himself? Seems like this could be a commonplace occurrence considering the circumstances.

They'll offer the PA "Substantial Inducements" ($$$$$$$, Cars, free LSU education for friends & relatives, LSU Season Tickets, etc.....) and it will be over and done with..........

No way you let him back on the team, especially with the charges he's facing. He may be innocent, but it's too risky to take that chance.

So we've got 3 running backs.
Boy, and y'all thought DT was in bad shape.
ETA: interesting aside - John Emery is still in the portal.

Did the D.A. also recuse himself? Isn't his son on staff?

Judge Clement is the stepmother of former LSU DE Chase Clement. She is married to his father. Just a side note to all of this.

I’m surprised we didn’t pick up another back.

Monique Clement is Chase Clement, former tiger, stepmother ironically. She has been pretty good so far as a judge.

It really is incredible that John Bolton, the DA, has a son on the coaching staff, and the the new judge has a stepson who is a former player.
