This is the biggest lie and myth perpetuated by some unknown entity. Ask sports doctors about this, it's categorically false and a legit sports doctor that's up to date with current information will refute this nonsense.

Do you have proof of this? I'd be curious to read it?

My father in law is a retired orthopedic surgeon that specialized in knee replacements, he is a graduate of duke medical school and did his residency at the same place that Dr. Andrews did. He can tell you the story of how Dr. Andrews was fired and left to start his own business, I don't remember it all. Doesn't matter now.

He will absolutely tell you that any endurance training over years and years and years will without a doubt wear your body out. He can tell you endless stories of runners with knee issues.

I'm not saying he is 100% right but he was one of the best in the business for 15-20 years.

There are people who don't think that pavement pounding day after day will eventually cause knee issues? I have several friends who are running and when they hit 50 they started having knee issues.

And he couldn't tell you that endurance runners were the majority of his patient base either. It's an easy demographic to remember but they far from make up the most of the orthopedic cases.

I can tell you a few too. I know a few older runners that can't run now because of knee issues. Perhaps it is some other reason than the miles they ran for years on concrete but I doubt it.
