McDonald’s plans $5 meal deal next month to counter customer frustration over high prices

McDonald’s plans to introduce a $5 meal deal in the U.S. next month to counter slowing sales and customers’ frustration with high prices.
The deal would let customers get a four-piece McNugget, small fries, a small drink and either a McDouble burger or a McChicken sandwich for $5 in most areas, according to a person familiar with the deal who wasn’t authorized to discuss its details.
The month-long deal is scheduled to begin June 25 and will be advertised nationally. Some stores with higher costs, like those in California or Hawaii, may charge more, the person said.
“We know how much it means to our customers when McDonald’s offers meaningful value and communicates it through national advertising,” McDonald’s said in a statement Wednesday.

Fast food prices have risen dramatically in the last few years due to a variety of factors, including elevated costs for labor, food and paper products. Between the first quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2024, the amount spent per person per visit at a U.S. fast food restaurant rose 25%, from $12 to $15, according to Technomic, a restaurant data firm.
McDonald’s said earlier this year that it was seeing fewer U.S. visits and lower spending from customers earning less than $45,000 per year.

I want to know what Taco Bell is going to do about a Bean Burrito being 2.60. It's crazy.

It's crazy how much Taco Bell has raised their prices. You could eat like a king for $5 there about 10 years ago.

A few weeks ago, I was told on here that fast food restaurants in California would all be closed due to wage increases. What’s the deal?

Remember in pre-Bidenomics when major chains had a price war on nuggets, and you could get 10 piece nuggets for like $2?

Imagine quoting something saying Cali will charge more and thinking you were making any kind of point.

That second cheeseburger looks like it’s ready to settle down.

Fast food doesn’t have the value at all when comparing to fast casual places.
I’m assuming a family of 4 is spending close to $50 per fast food visit.

Sad part is that restaurants that aren’t even in California (and not affected by that $20 min) wage will still raise their prices.
And what can McDonald’s do to lower their prices? Start using Alpo?

It hasn’t been that long ago that a cravings box at Taco Bell was $5.99. It’s almost twice that now.

That means 100% processed and fake food is coming your way, no way they can use real food through the current supply chain and keep things at that price

Will I be able to get an ice cream with that?
