As of now our iteniary is as follows:

Arrive in Calgary on July 4th

Dinosaur museum in Drumheller on the 5th.

Luge track(used in the '88 Olympics) in Calgary on the 6th.

Drive from Calgary through Banff on the 7th on our way to Golden, BC. My mom's life-long best friend lives in Golden and we are staying w/her and her husband for the bulk of the trip.

Drive up the Ice Fields Parkway on the 13th on the way back to Calgary.

We are also doing some hiking and maybe some fishing while we are in Golden.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. We can't wait.

Calagary Stampede should be happening, I’d check that out for a day or two. One of my most memorable weekends.

You need to see Peyto Lake on the way up Icefields Pkwy. Not far from Banff, best photo shot in Canada. Been there 5 times.

I would consider heading down to Waterton (the Canada side of Glacier NP). The Prince of Wales Hotel is in a cool spot:

Banff GNP Victoria Trip Report 2023
This is a link to my trip report from 2023. But it covers more than where you are going; probably more than you want to read. But there are pictures.

For the road trip from Banff to Golden these are my recommendations:
- Johnston Canyon Hike to waterfall; take Hwy 1A just north of Banff
- Morant's Curve viewpoint - further north on Hwy 1A
- Sprial Tunnel viewpoint - this is on Hwy 1, north of Lake Louise
- Takakkaw Falls - exit Hwy 1 onto Yahool Valley Road, about 12 miles I think but worth it if the glaciers are melting and the water is flowing.
- Backtrack to Hwy 1, continue west toward Golden, exit on Emerald Lake Road to go to Emerald Lake.

[/img] A map of part of the route described above.

The Icefield Parkway, Hwy 93 in that map, took us most of a day. We didn't get all the way to Jasper but almost. We had to get back for the glacier walk and that took 2 1/2 hours including the walkway.

If you get the GuideAlong app, it is free, then you can buy several tours of different parts of Canada including Banff, Icefield Parkway, etc. The tours range in price from $6 to $25. It works off of your GPS location; as you drive by a place on the map the narrator tells you about it. We found it helpful.

Western slope of the Canadian Rockies is underrated. Yoho, Kootenay and Glacier.

Probably my best day ever of fly fishing was on the Bow River through Calgary. Was also on my honeymoon in early June.
