Susan Backlinie, aka Chrissie Watkins, aka the first victim of JAWS, has passed away at 77. A movie death never affected me so much, esp as a little kid, probably the same for millions around the world. Got to meet her at a convention a few years back. She was so sweet and loved the fact there were fans who adored her and appreciated her. She also had a cameo in 1941, another Spielberg film. She also had a spread in the January '73 Penthouse. Beautiful woman and beautiful soul. RIP Chrissie.

Susan Buckner, who played Patty in Grease & with whom I have confused Susan Backlinie for years, died last week

I was a teenager when Jaws came out, and the opening scene with Chrissie's death was one of the most terrifying and harrowing scenes that ever existed up until that time.

That opening scene set the tone for the movie.
I'd like to know just how many people, after seeing "Jaws", didn't get in the water for ages when going to the beach.
Much like the shower scene in "Psycho" when women, and some men, wouldn't take showers if alone in their homes.

They yanked on the harness so hard, I think they broke one of her ribs. The pain and alarm were real, not acting for parts of that attack scene.
