Yellowjackets are underrated
They're 2nd only to bumblebees. The definition of, "nightmare fuel hellscape" is running over a bumblebee nest in the ground and having them tear your arse up. Think carpenter bees, but with a stinger, living in the ground by the hundreds, though not as easily agitated as a yellowjacket.
They're like a quiet, dignified, former heavyweight boxer: they're not as easily pissed off as the loudmouth (i.e., the yellowjacket), but when you push him over the edge, you will regret it.
Ground nesting stinging insects is a sore subject for me, I digress.

You are correct. Bumble bees make yellow jackets look like mosquitos. The bumble bees are the true badasses of ground nesters. Those are some seriously mean frickers if you get near their nest.

I’ve only had 2 encounters with bumble bees. The first was weedeating a fence. They chased me over 50 yards. I can’t recall how many times they got me. I killed the last one with my hand after it stung me on the top of the head through my hat. It then stung me in my hand. The next time was on the bush hog. Those frickers just don’t stop. They got me and the dog real good that time. Me and the catahoula were both swollen for days. Bumble bees are bad to the bone.

I tangled with them sum bitches. I ran over a nest with a lawn mower. It felt like someone came up behind and was punching me in the back. They chased my arse down Airline Hwy in Bossier City. I thought they never were going to stop chasing me.
