A) it’s nearly impossible to beat an incumbent mayor and none of the candidates expected would want to risk a loss on their ascending trajectory… really needed someone established but no longer trying to grow to take the chance.

B) exactly. Even if they won It had potential to be very hard on their resumes if they had ambitions after mayor

Unfortunately the way the political bench was at the time we had all folks that were trying to find safe wins to build their career and not someone that was viable but lacking that risk aversion
