Wonder why we come in last place in nearly every metric?
It’s not because of 23,000 people in Plaquemines Parish

Come on, dude. He has over 150k posts on TD. He knows what he's talking about.

No, its because the State can't get anything done. This project and the master plan was unanimously approved by the legislature multiple times (including Plaquemines' representatives).
Politics is what is killing it, and what kills every other thing the State attempts to do.

False. It’s approximately $50,000/acre to dredge.

Then you are aware that the State can terminate at any time with no recourse, right?

And when they have to redredge again and again to sustain the land that was built?

Untrue.
And in no event can the State terminate the contract without compensating the CMAR for work already performed, materials ordered, etc. I'm not sure if you are familiar with Archer Western, but they aren't going to just throw up their hands and take a haircut either.
Sure, the State can walk away if the project is tied up in litigation, etc., but they cannot do it for free. That is not even getting into the hundreds of millions already spent. That money isn't coming back.

Not cherry picking. It’s from the public bids of the dredge projects in the footprint of the diversion. That area is one of the cheapest to dredge …the infrastructure is already in place and it’s adjacent to the river.

Fair enough. Typical dredging projects last 20 years for the first phase, 30-35 years for the second phase, and 50 years for the third phase. Sounds like it would take 3 cycles to match what is being proposed. $600M each cycle is still cheaper than &3B.

I’m a Louisiana Republican who will sign a recall effort if this is stopped.
I can’t emphasize the stupidity of Landry and this administration so far. The Republican Party of Louisiana should be ashamed.
I will vote for any Republican that runs against him at this point and he’s barely into his tenure.

The CMAR has been paid for all work already performed

My question would be, is it not the state's prerogative to decide how this would be done? That there are other alternative options seems irrelevant now, that this decision was already made to go forward with the diversion a decade ago.
Where was all of this uproar in that time? This thing passed the legislature unanimously, repeatedly.

And their ongoing costs of maintaining the site, and continuing to make arrangements to continue construction?
All I'm saying is that if anyone thinks the State will easily walk away without it costing the State a chunk of change--either in contractor payments or legal fees--they are mistaken. Hell, Plaquemines shenanigans is only one of the lawsuits surrounding it. The dolphin people are throwing their own separate shite fit in federal court.

It’s astonishing people think this diversion is going to create an enormous coastline. It’s hardly going to build anything of consequence when there are far more effective methods anyway.
When we put the levees up we waived the white flag. Throw all the money you want at it — Mother Nature is undefeated.

It's so hard to find unemotional, informed people these days. Even on a forum of mostly grown "men"

No! It was totally a legitimate concern for the Parish......so concerning was it to the Parish that they waited several years until Jeff Landry was elected and the contractor started work to decide they wanted a permit.
Extortion has probably has cost Louisiana more than it could’ve made because of being so shortsighted and greedy. Laughable. Get what you deserve.
