Googling the gall wasp sure does seem to confirm this. Thanks, baw! When I saw them I thought “no way they’re making acorns already” then took a closer look and was so confused.

all of the juvenile live oaks i've transplanted have those or got those. its no big deal and nothing to be concerned about
